Position Description
The JERA Coal Scheduling team provides commercial, logistical and administrative support to JERA and JERAGM ensuring that all obligations arising from the Coal contracts are met and carried out professionally in order to keep appropriate inventory level and ensure a stable supply of electricity.
The JERA Coal Scheduling team works closely with the commercial team, JERA, JERA Power Station, and shipping company, applying operation, economics and optimization skills for profitable operations.
The team is responsible to implement and execute commercial deals, as well as establish the Delivery Plan to JERA Power Station.
Key Role Responsibilities
- Coordinate ETA schedules considering the characteristics of coal and stock yard operation in JERA power stations to secure a stable inventory
- Ensure that coal operations fully comply with the Company's internal standards including Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) policy, paying special attention to HSSE hazards and risks that may impact our license to operate
- Ensure that allobligations arising from the contracts are carried out, and that any necessary requirements are complied with
- Close communication with JERA, JERA power stationsand other key internal stakeholders in JERA and JERAGM to ensure timely response to changes in supply and demand
- Close communication with the commercial team to collect information on production, upstream activities, and troubleshooting
- Ensure a stable coal supply and manage coal inventory for JERA, by working and communicating closely with JERA's staff (including those in power stations) daily in Japanese
- Improving efficiency of coal scheduling operationsand promoting IT adoption working closely with IT team
- Close communication with shipping companies to manage dedicated vessels, collect information on vessel movements and troubleshooting
- Fulfil and ensure proper maintenance of contracts for the dedicated coal vessels
- Fulfil and maintain the charter parties for the dedicated coal vessels with ship companies based on the charter parties with JERA
- Fulfil and maintain the charter parties for the owned coal vessels with ship company
- Foster good relationships with internal and external stakeholders for synergies and to improve collaboration and operational efficiency avoid delays and minimize demurrage costs
- Support the team and provide guidance in understanding commercial impacts of marine technical actions ensure timely and correct information flows to the business to aid trading decisions
- Ensure that all operational information is entered into the trading systems
- Add value by exercising embedded commercial and logistical deal options and take a proactive approach to problem solving
- Support commercial team on the workability of proposed contractual arrangements for new projects, new contracts and spot cargoes
- Promote Coal Operations as an important, valuable and dependable part of the business
- Provide support to Head of JERA Coal Scheduling and coal trading and freight trading department
- Report to Head of JERA Supply in a timely manner, if operational concerns are raised
Qualifications
Key Qualifications and Experience
- At least total 2 years experience for thermal coal operations or procurement in Japanese power sector
- Must have a broad knowledge of the Japanese power industry especially JERA with an understanding requirement of its coal fired power stations
- Must have a good level of fluency in written and spoken Japanese (JLPT N1 or similar level) to liaise with Japanese stakeholders and counterparties
- Possess at least a Bachelor's Degree in Business, Commerce, Law, or other relevant qualifications
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software

- Able to operate coal schedule within a non-standard environment where the counterparty requires and expects considerable support, and at the same time be able to introduce standardization and efficiency
- Able to communicate effectively with all related person
- A commercial approach to his/her duties, a flexible approach to problem solving, and the ability to work effectively as part of a small, culturally diverse team
