Job Summary
We seek a customer-facing Java Pre-Sales professional with consulting experience supporting defence or regulated public sector clients. You will design secure, scalable Java solutions and engage senior stakeholders to drive trust and successful bids.
Responsibilities
Pre-Sales & Solutioning
- Act as the technical authority during pre-sales engagements for Java-based solutions supporting bids, RFPs, and tenders in defence and secure environments
- Translate defence and public sector requirements into scalable, secure Java solution architectures
- Design and articulate end-to-end technical solutions covering application architecture, integrations, middleware, and infrastructure
- Support effort estimation, solution costing, and define delivery approaches
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage senior customer stakeholders including technical, operational, and security teams to present solution designs and value propositions
- Deliver technical walkthroughs tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Build credibility by demonstrating strong understanding of compliance, security, and operational constraints in defence contexts
- Act as a trusted advisor throughout the sales lifecycle to foster long-term client relationships
Consulting & Delivery Alignment
- Collaborate with delivery, engineering, and project teams to ensure solutions are feasible and ready for implementation
- Provide technical governance and quality assurance during transition from pre-sales to delivery phases
- Support proof-of-concepts, demos, and technical validations to validate solution effectiveness
Security & Compliance Awareness
- Incorporate security-by-design principles aligned with defence and government standards into solution designs
- Understand and apply data sensitivity, access control, and system resilience requirements typical of defence environments
- Contribute to risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies during solution architecture
Required competencies and certifications
- Strong hands-on or architectural experience with Java and enterprise Java frameworks
- Proven consulting or system integration experience supporting pre-sales, bids, or large-scale proposals
- Prior exposure to defence, government, or highly regulated public sector customers
- Ability to structure complex technical problems and communicate solutions clearly
- Technical knowledge of Java application architecture, design patterns, microservices, APIs, and system integrations
- Familiarity with cloud, hybrid, or on-premises architectures
- Understanding of DevOps, CI/CD, and modern delivery practices
- Strong client-facing communication and presentation skills
- Confidence engaging senior stakeholders in secure or formal environments
- Consultative mindset with commercial awareness and ability to balance technical depth with business context
