Job Description

Reporting Line

. Reports to: Chief Investment Officer (CIO)

. Works closely with: Research Lead, Portfolio Advisers, Investing Committee (InvesCo), platform providers, fund managers, asset management partners, and internal stakeholders

Role Purpose

The Investment Operations & Research Analyst supports the investment team by contributing to investment research, fund research, portfolio monitoring, project implementation, investment operations, and process documentation.

This is a junior investment team role suitable for someone who is analytical, organised, detail-oriented, and willing to support both research and operational work. The role is intended to strengthen the investment team's research output, portfolio discipline, operating processes, and Standard Operating Procedures.

Key Responsibilities

1) Investment Research

. Perform fundamental research on individual equities.

. Prepare equity initiation reports for new investment ideas.

. Prepare earnings review reports after company results announcements.

. Prepare sector and peer comparison reports.

. Analyse business quality, financials, valuation, risks, catalysts, competitive position, and portfolio fit.

. Monitor news, earnings, guidance changes, share price movements, valuation changes, and investment thesis developments for existing holdings and watchlist companies.

. Assist the Research Lead in maintaining the approved equities list and watchlist.

. Perform ad-hoc research as requested by the CIO, Research Lead, InvesCo, Portfolio Advisers, or other stakeholders.


2) Fund Research and Fund Selection

. Conduct research on funds, ETFs, and other collective investment schemes.

. Prepare fund selection reports for new fund ideas.

. Compare funds by investment objective, strategy, holdings, performance, volatility, drawdown, fees, manager track record, and mandate fit.

. Support ongoing monitoring of approved funds and advised funds.

. Flag material issues such as underperformance, mandate drift, manager changes, portfolio concentration, fee concerns, or deterioration in risk-adjusted returns.

. Maintain fund comparison tables, fund watchlists, and supporting due diligence materials.

3) Performance Reporting and Investment Materials

. Support the preparation of monthly performance reports for relevant portfolios and funds versus benchmarks.

. Help explain key drivers of outperformance or underperformance.

. Prepare supporting analysis for investment reviews, portfolio updates, and internal investment discussions.

. Support the preparation of investment write-ups, investor letters, quarterly fund commentaries, and Investment Call materials where required.

4) Projects and Investment Operations

. Assist in designing and implementing new projects for the investment team.

. Support investment operations work, including portfolio implementation follow-up, platform coordination, data checks, document preparation, and process tracking.

. Work with platform providers, fund managers, asset management partners, and internal stakeholders where required.

. Help improve investment workflows, reporting processes, and operational controls.

. Identify operational gaps and propose practical improvements to increase accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.

. Assist with trade recommendation analysis and supporting documentation for portfolios and advised funds.


5) Standard Operating Procedures and Process Documentation

. Construct, maintain, and update Standard Operating Procedures for the investment team.

. Document workflows for research, fund selection, portfolio monitoring, portfolio changes, reporting, approval processes, and investment operations.

. Create and maintain checklists, templates, process guides, and control logs.

. Ensure SOPs are clear, practical, properly version-controlled, and updated when processes change.

. Help ensure investment processes are consistently followed and properly documented.

6) Training and Knowledge Sharing

. Support investment training materials for financial consultants where required.

. Support internal investment initiatives, including investment education, research sharing, and investment discussion materials.

Requirements

. Strong interest in equities, funds, portfolio management, and investment processes.

. Basic grounding in fundamental analysis, including business quality, financial statements, valuation, and investment risks.

. Comfortable working with financial statements, market data, portfolio reports, and investment materials.

. Strong Excel, PowerPoint, and written communication skills.

. Able to organise information clearly and produce structured research output.

. Detail-oriented and able to run recurring deliverables reliably.

. Able to follow processes carefully while also suggesting practical improvements.

. Experience with Bloomberg, Refinitiv, FactSet, Morningstar, fund platforms, or portfolio monitoring tools would be an advantage but is not required.
