Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities

Portfolio Management:

  • To optimize the allocation of funds across various asset classes in line with the company's investment policy and local regulation.
  • Facilitate investment analysis (such as risks, economic conditions, and interest rate environments) and periodic Strategic Asset Allocation (SAA) reviews of the investment portfolio to identify opportunities for rebalancing and enhancing returns.
  • Manage day-to-day investment activities in the company's portfolios and implement fund investment strategies, including monitoring portfolio status with outsourced Asset Management firms.
  • Support the selection and management of external managers or funds

Investment Reporting and Communication:

  • Prepare and provide timely investment performance reports to senior management, the investment committee and regional head office
  • Communicate investment insights, strategies, and performance updates to internal and external stakeholders
  • Continue to improve reporting consistency with unified regional / global standards and policies

Investment Accounting Operations (for Sompo Insurance Singapore):

  • Oversee month-end close by ensuring accurate posting of investment journal entries and data completeness across systems
  • Support investment book-keeping, including reconciliations across local and group investment software and ledgers,

Liquidity and Cash Flow Management:

  • Manage and coordinate investment, liquidity, and asset-liability management (ALM) to optimize investment yields within the agreed level of risk
  • Close partnership with Treasury team to analyze cashflow variability and ensure sufficient liquidity buffer to support emergencies and unanticipated cash requirements.

Governance, Compliance and Risk management:

  • Maintain Investment policy and SOPs: Document comprehensive investment procedures that outline roles and responsibilities, approval process & matrix, risk management strategies and compliance requirements
  • Ensure all investment activities comply with regulatory requirements and align with group policies, and company investment guidelines and policies.
  • Develop investment guidelines (IMA) and perform due diligence for external manager mandates
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to safeguard the company's assets

Investment Budgeting and Transformation:

  • Support the NII plan for the annual business plan of the group companies
  • Implement and drive system alignment (such as Clearwater/Anaplan/SAP) at country level.
  • Strive to simplify processes, such as reducing redundancies in committees, or structure
  • Collaborate on global / regional investment initiatives and projects to ensure country considerations are addressed

Collaboration with Key Stakeholders:

  • Work closely with external investment managers and other local stakeholders to oversee the management of the company's investment portfolio.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of external managers, ensuring alignment with the company's investment objectives and policies.
  • Be a contact person for Asset Management firms and financial institutions for Invested Assets and other related matters.
  • Facilitate regular communication and reporting between external managers and Regional Head Office.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Reporting Manager from time to time, in support of the overall investment function and business objectives.

Candidate Specifications

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration or any related fields

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant investment or investment accounting experience
  • Professional certification (e.g., CFA, CA, FRM, CIMA), investment and accounting system experience (e.g., Bloomberg, Aladdin or similar platforms, Clearwater, Telmera, SUN, SAP) are a plus
  • Sound understanding of financial markets, multi-asset investments, investment and accounting principles
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with high attention to detail
  • Insurance-specific and regional market knowledge (e.g. Asia credit, local markets) are preferable but not required
  • Clear communicator with good presentation and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to operate independently in a lean team or one-person setup, with strong ownership and accountability
