Job Description

As the institutional representative of over 45 million businesses in more than 170 countries, the International Chamber of Commerce operates with a core mission to make business work for everyone, every day, everywhere.

We act as the primary voice of the real economy in a range of intergovernmental organisations – from the World Trade Organization to the UN climate process – championing the needs of local business in global decision making.

The convening power of our global network enables us to set rules and standards that facilitate over $17 trillion dollars in trade each year – as well as providing tailored products and digital services that directly address the real challenges faced by businesses operating internationally. We also provide the world's premier private global dispute resolution services, leveraging ICC's unique independence, integrity, and expertise.

The role

ICC Asia is looking for a legal research intern in Singapore to support our work with the Digital Standards Initiative.

The Digital Standards Initiative – within ICC Asia in Singapore – aims to digitalise global trade by promoting regulatory reform and harmonised digital trade standards, which support businesses to make the move from analogue to digital in their trade and supply chains. The intern will contribute to DSI by supporting its work on legal and policy research that underpins digital trade reform. The role is research-intensive, with a focus on comparative legal analysis across jurisdictions, and works under the supervision of the DSI Lead for Regulatory Affairs and Legal Reform.

Your responsibilities and learning opportunities include:

  • Comparative legal and regulatory research on the existing digital trade legal landscape in selected jurisdictions, drawing on multilateral organisation outputs, academic literature, and ongoing programme work by international organisations;
  • Legal analysis and gap assessment against international model laws and treaties relevant to digital trade, including reading and digesting statutory and regulatory texts and producing structured analytical outputs;
  • Institutional mapping and reform-pathway research, covering the authorities, mandates, and coordination mechanisms relevant to digital trade reform in selected jurisdictions, and contributing to country baselines and reform roadmap analysis under the supervision of the senior lawyer.

The diverse audiences that we seek to engage and inspire include corporates, industry associations, technology solution providers, governments and inter-government organisations.
