ALBA Singapore:
- This Internet of Things (IoT) Engineer position will report directly to our Principal Systems Engineer Lead. Your role requires you to work closely with internal stakeholders to understand both systems and business requirements to better design, configure, deploy and maintain the solutions. Our office location is at Tuas Loop, with accessibility via public transport.
- ALBA Singapore commenced operations in 2020 as ALBA W&H Smart City Pte. Ltd., serving as the National Environment Agency (NEA)-appointed public waste collector for the Jurong and Woodlands-Yishun sectors.
- In a significant development, ALBA was awarded by the NEA in 2021 as the exclusive E-Waste collector in Singapore, operating within the framework of the Producer Responsibility Scheme (PRS). We have successfully deployed over 600 e-waste collection bins at strategic locations such as community centers, shopping malls, retail establishments, and government buildings across Singapore.
About the Role
IoT System Deployment & Configuration:
- Deploy, configure, and maintain IoT sensors and gateways
- Set up and optimize wireless networks (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee) for IoT device connectivity
- Integrate IoT devices with central management platforms and cloud services
Dashboard & Monitoring:
- Design and configure real-time dashboards for data visualization, alerting, and system health monitoring
- Automate data collection and reporting from IoT devices
Networking & Security:
- Implement basic network configurations: VLANs, firewalls, VPNs, and IP scheming for segregated IoT environments
- Ensure security hardening of IoT devices, gateways, and networks to prevent vulnerabilities
- Troubleshoot connectivity issues across LAN/WAN and wireless infrastructures
Systems Integration:
- Support integration of IoT systems with existing IT infrastructure (e.g., Windows/Linux servers, databases)
- Collaborate with software teams for API-based device management and data pipeline setup
Documentation & Compliance:
- Maintain detailed records of configurations, network topologies, and operational procedures
- Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., PDPA, GDPR) for IoT deployments
Requirements
Qualifications
- Poly Diploma/Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, IT, or related field
- 2+ years in IoT system deployment (sensors) or 3+ years in IT/networking roles with IoT exposure
Required Skills
- Hands-on experience with wireless technologies (Wi-Fi 6/6E, LoRaWAN, cellular IoT) and IoT protocols (MQTT, CoAP)
- Basic systems administration (Windows/Linux CLI) and networking skills (TCP/IP, routing, VLANs)
- Familiarity with IoT platforms (e.g., AWS IoT, Azure IoT, Siemens/Bosch suites) and dashboard tools (e.g., Grafana, Node-RED)
Preferred Skills
- CCNA/CompTIA Network+, CWNP (Wireless), or vendor certifications (e.g., Axis CCTV, Hikvision, Siemens) is highly advantageous
- Cloud certifications (AWS/Azure IoT Specialty) or Linux/Windows fundamentals is preferred
Individual Traits
- A self-starter who is able to work under minimal supervision
- Possess good communication and interpersonal skills
- Good project management skills and able to multi-task
