Job responsibilities:
- Serve as regulatory counsel for the company's cloud and content businesses in market, owning end-to-end regulatory and compliance strategy, with a particular focus on license and permit applications, statutory registrations, and the localization, gap-analysis and implementation of newly enacted laws across relevant jurisdictions.
- Partner closely with business teams to understand product roadmaps, deal structures and go-to-market plans; identify regulatory exposures in advance, and deliver practical, business-aligned legal advice through regular on-site engagement with local commercial, product and policy stakeholders.
- Monitor, interpret and operationalize regulatory developments across Southeast Asia, translate them into actionable internal guidance, and lead the rollout of localized compliance frameworks, policies and training programs.
- Lead the company's response to regulatory inquiries, administrative reviews, enforcement actions and investigations initiated by authorities in the region, coordinating with internal stakeholders, external counsel and, where required, law enforcement counterparts.
- Manage and oversee relationships with local external counsel and regulators across the region, serving as the principal point of contact for engagement with authorities on cloud, content and broader regulatory matters, and supporting government-relations colleagues in substantive policy dialogue.
- Act as the company's designated regional regulatory counsel for Southeast Asia, providing regulatory coverage and strategic guidance on cross-business and cross-jurisdictional matters that extend across all business groups.
Key expectations and criteria:
- Bachelor of Laws or equivalent degree from a reputable institution; admitted to practice and holding an active lawyer's license in at least one jurisdiction.
- 5 - 10 years PQE with a demonstrated track record in regulatory and compliance work, either in-house at a multinational corporation (preferably a Chinese-headquartered technology or internet company) or at a top-tier international law firm advising technology clients on regulatory matters.
- Solid working knowledge of the Southeast Asian regulatory landscape with hands-on experience.
- Experience in regulatory investigations, enforcement actions or government engagement, with sound judgment under pressure and discretion in handling sensitive matters.
- Strong product sense and genuine curiosity about cloud, content and internet business models, with the ability to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, practical guidance for product, commercial and policy stakeholders.
- Proven ability to partner with business teams in a fast-paced, high-growth environment; comfortable engaging with senior leaders and operating effectively across cross-functional settings, with a strong willingness to be on-site with business teams and regulators as required.
- Bilingual fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese (written and oral) is required; proficiency in an additional Southeast Asian language is a plus.
- Self-driven, organized and resilient; able to independently manage multiple workstreams, competing priorities and time-sensitive regulatory deadlines across multiple jurisdictions.
