YOUR ROLE

Role Overview

STMicroelectronics Imaging Division is developing and industrializing opto-electronics products: CMOS Image sensors, proximity sensors, 3D sensors, Ambient Light Sensors, Touch Sensors.

The position, located in Singapore, is an exciting opportunity to be part of an Innovative & Dynamic team, working on different worldwide leading technology image sensors targeting various customers and markets (Consumer, Industrial, Automotive).

As a Digital Backend Intern, you will support the physical implementation of next-generation image-sensor SoCs

Your work will focus on backend flowsincluding synthesis, place & route (P&R), timing closure, and physical verification and evaluating new tools that improve backend productivity and analysis quality.

You will help ensure that digital blocks supporting the image sensor pipeline meet PPA (Power, Performance, Area) and reliability requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Physical Design Support

Assist in block-level or top-level synthesis, floorplanning, and place & route.

Help drive timing closure using STA tools (e.g., PrimeTime), focusing on setup, hold, and clock skew issues.

Perform Physical Optimizations

buffering / resizing, congestion mitigation, clock-tree adjustments, routing constraint tuning

Support power optimization (clock gating, multi-Vt usage, power rail checks).

Review & analyze physical reports (timing, congestion, DRC, LVS, antenna).

New Tools & Automation Evaluation

Evalaute new tools to accelerate backend workflows: log parsers, report analyzers, timing-closure dashboards

Help debug violations and propose corrective actions with engineers.

Qualifications & Skills

Technical Skills

Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

Strong fundamentals in digital logic, timing, VLSI design, and computer architecture.

Coursework or experience in: VLSI backend flows, digital timing analysis, physical layout basics

Experience with

Python, TCL, and/or Shell scripting is a plus

basic EDA tools (Cadence / Synopsys / Mentor) is a plus

Familiarity with STA concepts (setup/hold, OCV, skew).

What You Will Gain

Hands-on experience with advanced digital backend flows used in real semiconductor design.

Deep understanding of physical constraints for digital design

Opportunity to build production-useful tools for timing closure, verification, or automation.

Mentorship from engineers working on commercial imaging silicon.
