The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Legal Counsel to provide legal and commercial support across the organisation's projects and business activities. This is a hands-on role partnering closely with Finance, Operations, Procurement and project stakeholders to manage contractual matters, strengthen commercial governance and minimise legal and financial exposure.
The successful candidate will be involved throughout the project lifecycle - from tender and contract review through project execution, claims and dispute management - while providing practical legal advice that balances risk management with commercial objectives.
Key Areas of Responsibility
Legal & Contract Advisory
- Advise business and project teams on contractual obligations, legal considerations and commercial risks arising from ongoing and new projects.
- Draft, review and negotiate various commercial agreements, including client contracts, subcontractor agreements and supplier arrangements.
- Partner with internal stakeholders and external parties to facilitate contract negotiations, execution and ongoing administration.
- Provide practical recommendations on contractual risks and ensure agreements are aligned with internal governance requirements and applicable legal standards.
- Maintain oversight of contractual commitments, key dates, deliverables and obligations throughout the contract lifecycle.
Commercial & Project Support
- Work alongside the Finance Director and project teams to evaluate commercial terms and contractual structures, with a focus on protecting margins and improving overall project outcomes.
- Support tender and bid reviews by identifying contractual exposures, unusual conditions and potential commercial implications before submission.
- Provide legal input into project-related submissions and claims, including Extension of Time (EOT), progress claims, and Loss & Expense claims, ensuring documentation and contractual positions are appropriately supported.
- Advise project and procurement teams on contractual issues involving clients, subcontractors, suppliers and other external stakeholders.
- Support teams in managing supplier performance and contractual obligations where delays or delivery issues may affect project timelines.
Claims, Disputes & Risk Management
- Identify emerging contractual or commercial risks early and work with relevant stakeholders to develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Advise on contractual non-compliance, variations, claims and other issues that may arise during project delivery.
- Support negotiations and resolution of disputes with clients, subcontractors and suppliers, with the objective of achieving commercially favourable outcomes while avoiding unnecessary escalation.
- Provide legal guidance on recovery strategies and corrective action plans for projects facing contractual, supplier or delivery challenges.
- Protect the company's interests throughout negotiations, claims and dispute resolution while supporting the timely and profitable completion of projects.
