Job Description

IBM Institute for Business Value (IBV) Global Research Leaders work directly with senior IBM executives to define, develop, and deliver unique and actionable research-based business insights. IBV Global Research Leaders support IBM teams and their clients through presentations, resource sharing, and training on tools and datasets. These insights enhance IBM's eminence and differentiation in the market and drive business value for IBM and IBM's clients. Additionally, IBV Global Research Leaders directly and indirectly influence industry organizations, client executives, and IBM talent through their unique knowledge of research methodologies, consulting and sales experience, topical expertise, and insights into IBM's strategy. This role is for the Healthcare & Life Sciences (HCLS) Global Research Leader specifically. HCLS clients represent a significant share of revenue for IBM. Effective thought leadership requires credible industry expertise, and the industry will be without coverage upon the retirement of the current global research leader.

Your Role and Responsibilities
The IBM IBV Global Research Lead is a trusted business advisor offering strategic insight, direction, planning, analysis and advice to C-suite executives and leadership teams to grow revenues and profit. As members of IBM's key business think tank, IBV Research Leads operate as trusted advisors to business leaders, envisioning and articulating the impact of technologies on business, setting direction and forecasting market outcomes. They measure and predict economic and financial performance, conduct sophisticated quantitative analysis, formulate business cases, and develop actionable recommendations and roadmaps that drive new business value.

Research Leads are responsible for leading international research teams and stakeholders both within and outside IBM in the development and execution of the IBM topical area team's thought leadership agenda. They maintain a global perspective while helping shape local insights. They collaborate with fellow IBV Research Leaders to explore complex challenges and deliver cross-disciplinary insights. They are mandated to engage and continually grow their eminence and advance networks and relationships with leading global experts, continually expanding market impact and innovation. They support account teams and meet with client leaders on the ground internationally to deepen relationships, support bids and proposals, sales pitches, and deliverables. They present insights, implications and recommended strategies at major external events globally.

Required Professional and Technical Expertise

  • Design and execute full life-cycle research projects including hypothesis generation, primary and secondary research, data analysis, best practice identification and recommendation formulation.
  • Develop fact based and differentiated business insights based on analytics that can influence business decisions by identifying opportunities and recommending actions.
  • Identify best practices and define insightful and actionable performance metrics based on research which can be integrated into business strategies.
  • Produce papers and other research deliverables (e.g., presentations,
  • infographics) that present high value, client ready, compelling insights from research.
  • Deliver internal and external briefings on relevant research.
  • Advise senior and C-level executives on world class performance based on research and advise on the development of various strategies and analyses (e.g., business value roadmaps, quantifying magnitude of productivity and efficiency improvement).
  • Build IBM assets for business performance such as process frameworks for industries and functional areas, component business models, and accelerators for offerings.
  • Stakeholder relationships:
  • Work actively and openly with colleagues across the IBV (e.g., analytics, editorial, design, marketing, etc.) to design, develop, and deploy research
  • Collaborate with senior executives and external thought leaders to define and prioritize the research agenda.
  • Manage and nurture relationships with a global set of experts and senior IBM stakeholders to ensure sponsorship, adoption and advocacy throughout the research life cycle.
  • Actively support top account leaders and clients in the development and deployment of content to ensure meaningful market relevance and impact.
  • Collaborate with IBM Marketing, Communications, and other stakeholders to deploy IBV thought leadership internally and externally through events, press coverage, articles, podcasts, social media, etc. to drive demand for IBV's research as well as raise self-eminence.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in the defined areas of research
  • Proven experience in designing and conducting primary research to interpret data and generate insights
  • Excellent presentation skills including a strong presence in front of C-level executives
  • Strong project management and relationship management skills
  • Professional attitude and service orientation, with prior experience and proven ability to work in an international and diverse team environment
  • Ability to work under pressure and experience with managing multiple simultaneous demanding deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal command of English
  • Strong skills in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word
  • Active development of professional networks and professional eminence, including social media channels such as LinkedIn.
  • Ability to use AI-based tools to explore topics, define scope, and accelerate the development of assets.
  • Willingness to work and travel globally as part of a global team. This includes calls and/or meetings with colleagues, stakeholders, and clients across time zones.
