Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Backup (TSM) Engineer with a strong command of IBM Spectrum Protect (formerly Tivoli Storage Manager). This role involves implementing and managing enterprise backup solutions, conducting technical training, and providing 24/7 operational support. The successful candidate must possess excellent technical expertise, communication skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver expert-level services for IBM Spectrum Protect implementations and competitive backup solutions.
- Perform billable service engagements, including design, installation, and configuration of IBM Spectrum Protect environments.
- Educate and train operations teams on IBM Spectrum Protect architecture, tools, and best practices.
- Provide 24x7 rotational shift support for backup infrastructure and operations.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues, ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are met.
- Provide remote and onsite support as required.
- Maintain documentation of configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Audit application backup policies and environments to ensure compliance and data protection.
- Collaborate with local and global teams for knowledge sharing and issue resolution.
Performance Objectives:
- Demonstrate expert product knowledge of IBM Spectrum Protect and associated competitive backup solutions.
- Ensure successful project execution and customer satisfaction for service engagements.
- Continuously mentor and guide junior support personnel.
- Maintain high availability and performance of backup systems and ensure effective Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies.
Requirements:
Experience:
- 3-5 years of proven technical experience with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM).
Technical Skills:
- Deep knowledge of:
- IBM TSM Server on Windows & UNIX
- TSM Server and Client Options
- TSM for Databases (Oracle, DB2, SQL)
- TSM for Mail (Domino, Exchange)
- TSM for VMware
- NDMP backups
- Disaster Recovery Manager (DRM) implementation
- Veritas NetBackup operations (VM backup & recovery)
- Hands-on experience with tape libraries and LTO tape drives.
- Proficient in OS platforms: Windows, AIX, Solaris, Linux (basic Unix skills).
- Understanding of DB2 and networking concepts.
