Role Summary
We are looking for an HVDC Valve Supervisor with proven experience in HVDC converter projects and strong hands-on supervision capability in valve installation, pre-commissioning, maintenance, and testing activities. The ideal candidate has a solid background in converter station site execution and is comfortable leading teams in high-voltage and international project environments. As HVDC Valve Supervisor, you will supervise, and coordinate site teams involved in the installation, assembly, pre-commissioning, maintenance, and testing of HVDC converter valve systems on international projects. This role is intended for a candidate with solid field experience in HVDC projects, particularly in converter station equipment, valve-related activities, and multidisciplinary site execution.
You will oversee day-to-day site activities related to the valve scope, ensuring work is carried out safely, with the required quality standards, and in line with project schedules and customer requirements. The role requires strong practical experience in supervising mechanical and electrical site work, as well as a good understanding of HVDC valve interfaces such as cooling systems, piping, busbar installation, pressure testing, flow testing, and electrical checks.
The position involves regular travel to customer sites worldwide and requires the ability to work in demanding site conditions, including remote and offshore locations .
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise teams of field engineers, technicians, and subcontractors during the installation, assembly, repair, maintenance, and pre-commissioning of HVDC converter valve systems.
- Coordinate and oversee valve-related site activities to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution in accordance with project requirements.
- Supervise both mechanical works and electrical testing activities related to the valve scope on site .
- Support the execution of the valve project scope from preparation through site completion and handover to the customer, within budget and schedule targets.
- Prepare site activities in advance, including review of required tools, equipment, spare parts, technical documentation, and workforce readiness.
- Monitor daily work progress and provide regular reporting on status, completed work, issues, and upcoming activities, including use of reporting tools such as Smartsheet and progress tracking documentation .
- Maintain proper quality control and traceability of site works, including inspections, reports, non-conformities, and quality plan follow-up.
- Raise, track, and help close non-conformities (NCRs) related to valve site activities, with clear action plans and follow-up .
- Ensure all activities are performed in full compliance with EHS rules, GE lifesaving principles, and site safety requirements, and promote a strong safety culture among all personnel under supervision.
- Support the maintenance of the Valve Delivery Project Plan and contribute to detailed planning and execution follow-up aligned with the main project schedule.
- Participate in progress reviews, engineering reviews, risk discussions, and lessons learned activities when required.
- Support cost and schedule awareness through follow-up of planned hours, progress achieved, and completion forecasts.
- Supervised Activities May Include: Pipe fitting, Mechanical assembly and build, Busbar installation and jointing, Laying and checking activities, Pressure tests, Flow tests, Cooling plant/interface works, Electrical checks and testing, Valve repair and maintenance activities
Requirements
Experience
- Essential experience in HVDC projects, preferably in site-based roles involving converter valve installation and maintenance, pre-commissioning, mechanical and electrical supervision, and converter station construction or commissioning support.
- Proven experience supervising field teams and subcontractors on industrial or high-voltage project sites.
- Essential practical knowledge of HVDC converter valve systems and their associated site interfaces.
- Experience working in high-voltage environments, ideally including live HV conditions, is essential.
- Familiarity with site reporting, quality follow-up, and coordination with engineering and project teams.
Technical Background
- Degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering preferred, with a good technical understanding of electrical engineering principles relevant to the role.
- Strong mechanical site background combined with practical exposure to electrical testing and checks.
- Ability to read and work from technical documentation, drawings, procedures, inspection plans, and schedules.
