Job Description

Your role

Our major Oil & Gas Downstream Client is looking for HVAC Engineer who will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of HVAC systems across the Bukom site's offices, laboratories, control rooms, workshops and other supporting facilities.

The role supports both day-to-day maintenance and the delivery of HVAC replacement, rejuvenation and improvement projects. The engineer should have a strong HVAC foundation together with an electrical background, particularly in HVAC power supplies, motors, variable-speed drives, control panels and instrumentation.

Key Responsibilities

HVAC Maintenance and Reliability

  • Provide technical support for chillers, cooling towers, chilled-water systems, air-handling units, fan-coil units, split-unit systems, ventilation systems and precision cooling equipment
  • Oversee preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance performed by the integrated facilities management team and specialist contractors
  • Review equipment condition, breakdown history, recurring defects and maintenance effectiveness
  • Troubleshoot HVAC mechanical, electrical and control-system faults
  • Review maintenance schedules, service reports, technical findings and contractor recommendations.
  • Maintain appropriate critical spares
  • Support emergency response and restoration of HVAC services during breakdowns.

Electrical and Controls Support

  • Review and troubleshoot HVAC electrical systems, including power supply, isolators, motor control panels, starters, contactors, protection devices, VSDs and associated cabling
  • Verify electrical load requirements and interface requirements for new or replacement HVAC equipment
  • Review control schematics, wiring diagrams, cause-and-effect logic and equipment interlocks
  • Support the diagnosis of sensors, actuators, thermostats, transmitters, control valves and communication faults
  • Coordinate with the site electrical team and Licensed Electrical Worker where electrical switching, modification or regulatory oversight is required
  • Ensure safe isolation, lockout/tagout and reinstatement of HVAC electrical equipment.

Project Engineering and Delivery

  • Carry out site assessments and establish project requirements with building occupants, operations, maintenance teams and other stakeholders
  • Prepare preliminary technical solutions, cost estimates, schedules and budget justifications
  • Review contractor proposals, technical submissions, drawings, equipment selections and method statements
  • Participate in tender evaluations and provide technical recommendations.
  • Coordinate project execution, including site access, permits, isolations, shutdowns and interfaces with existing facilities
  • Monitor contractor performance, safety, quality, schedule and costs
  • Review equipment capacity, redundancy, maintainability, electrical requirements and compatibility with existing systems
  • Lead or participate in pre-start-up safety reviews and project handovers
  • Ensure review submission of as-built drawings, operation and maintenance manuals, warranties, test records and training materials
  • Support Management of Change requirements where modifications affect system design, operating conditions or facility risk.

Energy and Performance Management

  • Monitor HVAC performance, energy consumption and equipment operating trends
  • Identify opportunities to optimise temperature settings, operating schedules, equipment sequencing and control strategies
  • Support energy-efficiency initiatives and sustainability targets
  • Evaluate lifecycle cost when recommending repair, replacement or upgrading options
  • Track the performance and benefits of completed improvement projects.

Contractor and Stakeholder Management

  • Coordinate closely with IFM partners, HVAC specialists, electrical personnel, project contractors and equipment vendors
  • Engage building occupants and operational stakeholders when planning shutdowns or responding to service disruptions
  • Communicate equipment status, operational risks, recovery plans and project progress to management
  • Ensure contractors demonstrate proactive ownership of maintenance and project deliverables.


You are what we are looking for if you:

  • Have Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Facilities Management or a related discipline
  • Have strong electrical engineering background combined with practical HVAC experience
  • Have minimum 5 years of relevant experience in HVAC maintenance, facilities engineering or project delivery.
  • Have experience working in an industrial, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, data centre or other high-reliability environment is preferred
  • Have practical knowledge of chilled-water systems, air-side systems, ventilation and packaged air-conditioning equipment
  • Have good understanding of motors, protection systems, VSDs, HVAC control panels and electrical schematics
  • Are familiar with Building Management Systems, control logic and communication protocols such as BACnet or Modbus
  • Have experience managing contractors and coordinating work in an operating facility
  • Have experience preparing technical scopes, reviewing quotations and managing small- to medium-sized projects
  • Have knowledge of permit-to-work, electrical isolation and general workplace safety requirements.

Working Requirements

  • Based primarily at Pulau Bukom.
  • Regular site walkdowns and access to plant buildings, rooftops, mechanical rooms and electrical rooms
  • May require climbing stairs and ladders and working in outdoor industrial conditions
  • May be required to support urgent breakdowns or planned shutdown activities outside normal working hours
  • Must be comfortable working within a controlled industrial environment with strict safety and permit requirements.
