Our client is a data centre developer with an active construction programme in Johor Bahru.
This is a newly created role and their first in-house HSE hire. The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and driving the full HSE function across the construction, covering health, safety and environmental compliance in line with regulatory requirements. You will work closely with General Contractors and third-party HSE providers on-site, with visibility to Singapore HQ.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary on-site HSE representative across the data centre construction in Johor Bahru
- Develop, implement, and maintain the company's HSE management system, policies, and procedures
- Work directly with General Contractors and subcontractors to ensure compliance with HSE standards and local regulatory requirements
- Conduct environmental assessments, risk assessments, and method statement reviews
- Monitor and report on environmental impact, waste management, and sustainability practices on-site
- Investigate incidents, near-misses, and non-conformances; implement corrective and preventive actions
- Conduct site inspections, toolbox talks, inductions, and HSE training for site personnel
- Ensure compliance with OSH Act, Environmental Quality Act, and relevant construction regulations
- Liaise with regulatory bodies, authorities, and third-party auditors as required
- Report HSE performance metrics and KPIs to Singapore HQ
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years HSE experience, ideally in construction, data centre, or industrial environments
- Solid understanding of HSE and environmental legislation
- Mandarin-speaking preferred
- Experience managing or coordinating with third-party HSE service providers
- Hands-on and site-present working style
- Willing to travel frequently to Johor Bahru; Singapore-based candidates considered
- NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent; Green Book / Site Safety Supervisor certification an advantage
