Job Description

Job Summary

The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for supervising the day-to-day housekeeping operations to ensure guestrooms, public areas, and back-of-house areas are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, presentation, safety, and guest satisfaction. The role supports the Assistant Housekeeper in leading the Housekeeping team, maintaining operational efficiency, and ensuring a welcoming environment that provides warmth and comfort to every guest throughout their stay.

Areas of Focus

This role focuses on Housekeeping operations, room inspections, quality assurance, guest service, linen and inventory control, manpower coordination, hygiene and cleanliness standards, preventive maintenance, and team supervision. The position ensures departmental standards, service excellence, and operational efficiency are consistently achieved.

Strategic Responsibilities / Duties

  1. Supervise the daily Housekeeping operations across guestrooms, suites, public areas, and other assigned areas.
  2. Support the Assistant Housekeeper in planning daily operations, manpower deployment, and work schedules.
  3. Allocate guestrooms and work assignments to Housekeeping Attendants to ensure timely room readiness.
  4. Conduct inspections of occupied rooms, departure rooms, vacant rooms, VIP rooms, showrooms, and arrival rooms to ensure compliance with hotel quality standards.
  5. Ensure guestrooms, public areas, and Food and Beverage outlets are maintained in a clean, safe, and presentable condition.
  6. Monitor Housekeeping standards relating to guestroom cleaning, bathroom sanitation, linen presentation, and overall cleanliness.
  7. Coordinate with the Front Office on room status, guest arrivals, departures, special requests, and operational priorities.
  8. Liaise with the Engineering Department to report, monitor, and follow up on maintenance defects and preventive maintenance requirements.
  9. Coordinate special Housekeeping projects, including spring cleaning, carpet shampooing, window cleaning, pest control, inventories, and refurbishment programmes.
  10. Manage guest requests and ensure timely resolution while maintaining high standards of guest satisfaction.
  11. Administer the hotel's Lost and Found procedures, ensuring proper documentation, safekeeping, and return of guest belongings.
  12. Monitor linen inventory, housekeeping supplies, amenities, and operating equipment to ensure adequate stock levels.
  13. Ensure Housekeeping trolleys, floor pantries, storage rooms, and service areas are organised, clean, and properly maintained.
  14. Conduct daily shift briefings and ensure effective communication during shift handovers.
  15. Supervise, coach, and provide on-the-job training to Housekeeping Attendants to improve operational performance and service standards.
  16. Monitor employee grooming, hygiene, attendance, and adherence to departmental policies and procedures.
  17. Assist in resolving operational issues, employee concerns, and guest complaints in a professional and timely manner.
  18. Assist with guestroom cleaning during peak operational periods or when manpower support is required.
  19. Support inventory counts, linen stock takes, and departmental audits.
  20. Ensure compliance with workplace safety, hygiene, environmental, and hotel operating standards.
  21. Assist the Assistant Housekeeper in monitoring departmental expenses, resource utilisation, and operational efficiency.
  22. Act on behalf of the Assistant Housekeeper during his or her absence to ensure continuity of operations.
  23. Perform other duties as assigned by the direct reporting manager.

Key Skills and Requirements

  1. Diploma or equivalent qualification with a minimum of2 years of Housekeeping experience in a hotel environment, including supervisory responsibilities.
  2. Good knowledge of hotel housekeeping operations, cleaning procedures, room inspection standards, linen management, and inventory control.
  3. Strong leadership and team supervision skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop employees.
  4. Good understanding of guest service standards and the ability to resolve guest concerns professionally.
  5. Good organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise work in a fast-paced operational environment.
  6. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Experience with hotel property management or housekeeping systems is an advantage.
  7. Able to communicate effectively in spoken and written English. Additional language proficiency is advantageous.
  8. Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, public holidays, and according to operational requirements.
