They will be responsible for teaching History across Key Stages 3 to 5, preparing students for IGCSE, A Level, or IB Diploma examinations. As the school grows, there may be future opportunities for leadership roles within the Humanities Faculty.

They will also serve as a Form Tutor, providing pastoral care and helping students thrive both personally and academically.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver a high-quality History curriculum aligned with the Cambridge International and The Perse School curriculum framework.
  • Teach History across a range of year groups, sparking students interest in historical events, individuals, and movements.
  • Foster a spirit of historical inquiry and critical thinking through primary and secondary source analysis, discussions, and project-based learning.
  • Regularly assess and monitor student progress through formative and summative methods, providing timely feedback and support.
  • Prepare students for external examinations, including IGCSE (first examination in May/June 2027), offering a rigorous and enriching course of study.
  • Contribute to cross-disciplinary learning by collaborating with teachers across the Humanities and other faculties.
  • Inspire students to engage with history beyond the classroom through extracurricular activities, competitions, guest speakers, and educational visits.
  • Act as a Form Tutor, supporting the social, emotional, and academic development of students.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and carers about students learning and progress.
  • Participate actively in professional learning opportunities and share best practices in the teaching of History.
  • Promote global citizenship, respect for diverse perspectives, and historical awareness within the school community.

Person Specification:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective engagement with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • A commitment to inclusive and differentiated teaching practices that meet the needs of all learners, including EAL students.
  • Strong pastoral instincts and the ability to support students wellbeing and personal development.

Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Familiarity with inquiry-based or concept-based learning approaches in History and the Humanities.
  • Ability to teach a second Humanities subject, such as Geography or Global Perspectives, up to Key Stage 3 or 4.
  • Experience developing history curricula or schemes of work, particularly within international or British school contexts.
  • A willingness to contribute to Model United Nations, debate teams, or historical research competitions.
  • Interest in integrating digital tools or virtual resources to enhance historical learning and exploration.
