About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel or Head of Legal to support a leading data center company in managing a wide range of commercial and operational legal matters. This role will be the key legal business partner to regional teams, guiding complex commercial negotiations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and safeguarding the company's interests across all business activities.
This position is ideal for a commercially minded legal leader with strong exposure to technology, infrastructure, data center operations, or large-scale commercial contracting.
Key Responsibilities
Commercial & Contracting
- Lead, draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts, including:
Data center service agreements
Colocation agreements
Power purchase and utility agreements
Supplier/vendor contracts
Construction, design, and engineering contracts
- SLAs, NDAs, and framework agreements
Business Partnering
- Serve as the primary legal advisor to senior management and cross-functional teams (Operations, Commercial, Engineering, Finance).
- Work closely with sales and commercial teams to enable business growth while ensuring legal compliance and risk mitigation.
- Support new business initiatives and expansions across the region.
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with local laws and regulatory requirements in data center, infrastructure, and technology sectors.
- Develop and implement company policies, governance frameworks, and best practices.
- Manage legal risks related to data privacy, cybersecurity, ESG, and operational standards.
Dispute Management
- Handle potential disputes, claims, and litigation matters with external counsel.
- Advise on contract enforcement, customer disputes, and vendor issues.
Leadership (if Head role)
- Lead and develop a legal team across the region.
- Manage external legal counsel and legal budgets.
- Drive legal strategy aligned with corporate objectives.
Requirements
- 8-15 years PQE (or more for a Head role), trained in reputable law firms or MNC environments.
- Strong experience in commercial contracting, ideally in data centers, cloud, telecommunications, or technology infrastructure.
- Proven ability to negotiate complex commercial agreements with enterprise clients and major vendors.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks, data privacy laws, IT services, construction contracts, or utilities agreements is a strong advantage.
- Strong stakeholder management, business acumen, and ability to work in fast-paced environments.
- Excellent communication skills ability to present clearly and influence senior leaders.
- Legal qualifications from a Commonwealth jurisdiction preferred (SG, UK, AU, HK).
