Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership C Strategy

  • Full PCL responsibility for the commercial trading of chartered-in fleet
  • Lead and mentor the chartering and operations teams, promoting a high-performance culture.
  • Work closely with finance and risk management to manage exposure and profitability.
  • Set up Shipping SOP to support efficient and cost-effective operations and ensure compliance
  • Explore and implement up-to-date shipping technologies/system/programmes to develop innovation commercial solutions that optimises vessel trading efficiency
  • Support in developing new commercial shipping opportunities

2. Chartering (Commercial)

  • Develop and execute chartering strategy for spot, time charter, and long-term contracts.
  • Identify market opportunities and negotiate fixtures with charterers, owners, and brokers.
  • Manage and build strong relationships with clients, brokers, shipowners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Analyse freight markets, competitor activity, and market trends to inform chartering decisions.
  • Ensure all charter party agreements are commercially viable and legally sound.

3. Operations

  • Oversee all post-fixture operations including voyage execution, bunkering, cargo handling, demurrage/despatch and voyage claims.
  • Ensure compliance with international maritime regulations and company safety standards.
  • Manage coordination between vessels, agents, port authorities, and Charterers/Shippers/Receivers/Cargo Owners.
  • Ensure all voyage cost components are closely monitored and minimized to optimize voyage profits/losses.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor's degree in Maritime related studies or Business Management
  2. Extensive experience in negotiating charter parties, contract clauses as well as managing post fixtures
  3. Familiar and skilled in usage of digital chartering platforms
  4. Strong network across charterers, cargo owners, tonnage providers, and brokers
  5. Excellent negotiation, leadership, and cross-functional coordination skills
  6. Analytical, numerical and problem-solving skills when under pressure and tight work deadlines
  7. Team management and leadership qualities.
