About The Role
The
Head of Medical, JAPAC provide medical leadership, leading Ipsen's medical strategy, direction & programs for the medical function across the region.
You Will
- Identify, lead, and undertake a variety of projects across the affiliates, focusing on building a best-in-class medical affairs group.
- Lead collaboration with external experts and patient groups, and generate data through liaisons with country medical directors and their teams and cross-functional teams.
- Provide functional line management to the Country Medical Leads and support the affiliates/countries in the growth and evolution of their teams and services.
- Liaise regularly and support the various global medical affairs teams
- Be the first medical point of contact for all affiliate MDs outlined above and will proactively share best practices across the region.
- Ensure a strong cross-functional partnership with the Regional Head of Commercial and the GMs.
- Maintain an external focus to stay abreast of clinical trends and medical and compliance challenges, ensuring that Ipsen continually innovates and maintains a competitive edge.
Main Responsibilities
Medical Leadership
- Provide medical leadership for the region, sitting as a member of the Cluster leadership team to ensure medical strategy is aligned with the broader business needs and the Cluster LT is kept appropriately apprised of medical insights and portfolio updates.
- Represent Ipsen's CMO and medical leadership both internally and externally
- Accountable for sign-off of cluster and affiliate annual medical plans aligned to Global Annual Medical Plans (GAMP), Global Brand Strategic Plan (GBSP), and Country Brand Operating Plans (CBOP).
Functional Management to Country Medical Leads
- Support each General Manager/Country Lead with the managerial aspects of each country's Medical Lead and their teams
- Support country Medical Leads appraisals, development, and progression
- Interview and evaluate all new potential medical recruits within the cluster and support the onboarding and development of all new medical employees
Identify and lead global and local projects within the cluster
- Ensure GMA projects of strategic interest and/or operational importance are implemented in the cluster
- Elevate regional project concepts to VP, GMA International, and/or IMALT and provide a balanced scientific and business rationale
- Prepare business cases where necessary
- Identify, contract, and manage external vendors if required
- Lead & oversee agreed projects within affiliates in conjunction with affiliate medical leads
Act as an interface between affiliate and the medical global teams
- Be identifiable and approachable to respond reactively to a diverse array of ad hoc enquiries generated by affiliate teams
- Escalate any identified concerns to VP, GMA International and/or GMALT and to suggest a remedial plan
Qualifications
- Medical doctor or further degree in a scientific discipline, i.e., MD, PhD, PharmD
- Proven leadership experience as a Medical Director or senior medical affairs leader, ideally with cluster or multi-country oversight within JAPAC.
- Strong leadership experience, including coaching, talent development, and building high-performing medical teams.
- Strong experience in medical governance, including compliance with regional regulations and ethical standards.
- Successful track record in leading clinical and evidence-generation initiatives (e.g., RWE, ISTs, post-marketing studies) and audits.
- Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, highly matrixed, and cross-functional environment, partnering with Commercial, Regulatory, Market Access, and other functions.
- Strong communication, influencing, and stakeholder engagement skills at all levels internal and external.
- Ability to navigate and build relationships across diverse markets and cultures, with a strong understanding of regional healthcare environments.
- Excellent project management, organizational skills, and ability to independently prioritize complex and evolving demands.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with resilience and adaptability to change; able to turn insights into actionable strategies.
- Fluency in English
