Job Description

1. Purpose & Mission

As Head of Marine you are entrusted with the responsibility of driving results and overseeing all marine operations (Sales & Service Market) within a specific market/geographical area. Your primary focus lies in achieving sales targets (engine & P&S), enhancing profitability, and ensuring the smooth flow of cash within the marine segment. Reporting directly to the Vice President Marine Sales Marine Leisure/Yacht/Marine Commercial Segment, you play a pivotal role in executing strategic initiatives through commercial plans and aligning operations with broader organizational objectives.

In this role, you serve as a key driver of end-to-end growth, profitability and customer success for Volvo Penta Marine, leveraging your leadership skills and industry expertise to propel the marine segment forward. Through strategic planning, effective team management, and a relentless focus on results, you play a vital role in shaping the future success of the organization

2. Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement commercial plans to drive sales growth, profitability, and market share within the assigned market/geographical area.
  • Collaborate with the Vice Presidents Marine Sales Marine Leisure/Yacht/Marine Commercial Segment to define and execute long-term business strategies for the marine segment and specific sub-segment

Sales and Business Development:

  • Lead the marine team (Sales and Service Market) to achieve sales targets, expand market penetration and secure customer support
  • Identify new business opportunities, partnerships, and market segments to drive revenue growth.
  • Foster relationships with key clients, dealers, and stakeholders to enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Financial Performance:

  • Monitor financial and other performance metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess profitability and cash flow within the marine segment.
  • Implement measures to optimize costs, improve margins, and maximize overall financial performance.
  • Utilize analytics and market intelligence and deep customer knowledge to produce accurate sales forecasts.
  • Develop and secure in-depth knowledge of customer operations, needs, and challenges. In order to prevent and lead order book reliability.

Team Management and Development:

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and mentorship to the local Management Team
  • Foster a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement within the marine team.
  • Identify training and development needs to enhance the skills and capabilities of team members.

Operational Excellence:

  • Ensure operational efficiency and effectiveness across all marine business functions, including sales, service, and business support.
  • Oversee the implementation of processes and systems to streamline operations and enhance customer service delivery.

Delegation and Collaboration:

  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities as necessary within the marine local team, ensuring effective coordination and support for administrative functions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including marketing, product & services development, and finance, to drive integrated business strategies and initiatives.
  • Delegate necessary responsibility for network development and P&S business tasks.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Marine segment sales growth (engine & P&S)
  • Service market KPI's
  • Profitability margins
  • Market share expansion
  • Customer satisfaction scores
  • Cash flow management effectiveness

3. Authorities

  • Prioritize and decide on allocation of local resources (in dialogue with Vice Presidents Marine Sales).
  • Take decisions in accordance with given guidelines within Volvo Penta Business manual and those responsibilities delegated by the Vice President Marine Sales & Marine Leisure/Yacht/Marine Commercial.

4. Competences

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field. MBA preferred.
  • Proven track record of success in marine sales, business development, and leadership roles.
  • Strong understanding of the marine industry, market dynamics, and customer needs.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and drive results through collaboration and innovation.

Reporting Line: Reports to Vice President Marine Sales & Marine Leisure/Yacht/Marine Commercial Segment

Location: Flexible

Main Stakeholders:

The main stakeholders for a Head of Marine include:

OEM, end users, prospects, dealers & operators and other business current and potential stakeholders.

Head of Marine of other markets/geographical areas, Service Market Marine and the rest of the marine stakeholders globally, including VP Marine Sales Marine Leisure/Yacht/Marine Commercial and their teams

Direct reports and support staff whose performance and engagement impact sales performance, including marketing, business support etc.

Volvo Penta industrial teams locally and globally.
