Job Description

UWCSEA Dover is looking for a Head of High School Sport to join our School, starting in August 2026 or earlier if the right candidate is available.

The Head of HS Sport is a key member of the UWCSEA Activities Leadership Team. They report to the Head of Whole School Sport to implement a world class, diverse and inclusive HS sports programme. The post holder is responsible for the design, delivery, monitoring and reporting of the HS Sports Activity Programme. They are also responsible for the effective recruitment and monitoring of external staff, the management of operational expenses and communication of the programme to the wider community. The Head of HS Sport is responsible for the management of the teacher and external coaches (IEC & Company) and will also be involved in Development and Competitive Team coaching.

Main Responsibilities

  • Plan and articulate HS sports programme mission, objectives and training programmes
  • Recruitment, induct, train and monitor FT sports administrative staff and coaches in the competitive sports team (U19, U16).
  • Develop and monitor teacher and external coach session planning, delivery, assessment and in service training.
  • Manage, in coordination with the Head of Whole School Sport, the fixture & event calendaring, scheduling & travel for U16, U19 College School sports teams (ACSIS & SEASAC and other trips)
  • Coordinate the sourcing, storage, pricing and allocation of sports team and staff uniforms
  • Collaborate with the Head of Whole School Sport to develop student agency at HS level (such as the Student-Athlete Committee)
  • Manage the vision & content of the HS sport activities site and the weekly communication of information to students and the wider UWCSEA community regarding sports fixtures and events
  • Manage the documentation, review and application of child safeguarding and health and safety policies and ensure associated INSET is provided to key personnel
  • Coordinate with UWCSEA facilities, transport, safeguarding, procurement & accounts depts to ensure consistent application of policies & procedures in these areas
  • Coach College Teams as required.

Person Specifications

  • Diploma holder (teaching qualification / PGCE (beneficial but not essential) and / or National body sport coaching qualifications
  • A minimum of 5 years supervisory experience / leadership in similar School and/or Sports / Activities club system
  • Passionate about working with children in the High School Age group (G9-12 / 14-18yrs)
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational, written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work cohesively in a team-based environment as well as independently when required
  • Ability to build high performing sports coaching teams focusing on developing technical skills, physical capacity, life & mental skills, concepts & strategies.
  • Ability to understand and anticipate customers needs, being sensitive to their situations, opinions and culture, and take action to provide high quality training and service opportunities which exceed their expectations.
  • Experience with Google Suites ideal but not essential.
