THE ROLE: Head of English and Learning Support
The Head of English and Learning Support provides strategic and operational leadership to enhance students English language proficiency and academic success across their entire study journey at Kaplan Singapore.
The role focuses on the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of English language support initiatives, including both the preparatory English programs (IGCSE English, pre-degree/pre-diploma students) and ongoing learning support embedded throughout students academic programmes. These supports may be delivered in-class and out-of-class, ensuring students are equipped with the language and academic skills required for learning success.
The role also involves overseeing quality assurance, staff management, and the development of targeted learning support strategies aligned with institutional goals and student needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Leadership
- Provide academic leadership for English language development and learning support services across the student population in Kaplan Singapore
- Drive strategic initiatives that strengthen English for Academic Purposesand academic skills for diverse student cohorts.
- Promote innovative, student-centred approaches to language support delivery, both embedded within curriculum and as supplementary support.
Curriculum & Programme Development
- Collaborate with teaching teams to integrate language development into teaching and assessment practices.
- Support faculty in adopting strategies for language-sensitive teaching and cultural-responsive classroom practices
- Collaborate with internal and external partners to enrich curriculum design and teaching materials.
- Promote alignment between programme outcomes and institutional goals.
People & Resource Management
- Lead and support academic staff, including performance reviews, workload planning, and mentoring.
- Facilitate staff development in language pedagogy, English test preparation, and academic skills support
- Ensure optimal use of facilities and resources while maintaining safety and operational efficiency.
Student Experience & Support
- Champion a holistic approach to student learning support, focusing on language proficiency as a key success factor.
- Develop targeted support for at-risk students and those requiring additional language development.
- Monitor and enhance student engagement with English support services
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure academic activities comply with institutional policies and external accreditation requirements.
- Maintain robust quality assurance processes, including academic audits and ongoing enhancement efforts.
- Support regulatory reviews and monitor key metrics such as enrolment, retention, and class sizes to drive sustainable growth.
General Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of cross-departmental initiatives and strategic goals.
- Deliver teaching duties in line with institutional workload expectations, approximately 200 hours annually.
- Undertake additional duties or projects as assigned by senior leadership.
Qualifications and Skills:
Education
- Master's Degree in a related discipline. PhD candidates will be given priority consideration.
Minimum Years of Experience
- 10 years experience in a multi-cultural setting at a higher educational institution or equivalent.
- A minimum of 3 years managerial experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong understanding of curriculum design, academic leadership, and higher education administration.
- Experience with digital learning tools and blended/online delivery modes.
- Proven ability to lead and support academic teams, manage resources, and drive staff development.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and people management skills.
- Ability to support change and continuous improvement within an educational setting.
- Awareness of trends and challenges in the private higher education sector, both locally and globally.
Other Information
- Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm.
- Work Arrangements: Hybrid (Blend of in-office and remote work)
