Role Description

We are seeking for an experienced Head of Engineering to lead our engineering division in developing cutting-edge redox flow battery technology. This is a pivotal leadership role that combines deep technical expertise with strategic vision to drive innovation in energy storage solutions. You will spearhead the development of advanced battery systems while building and mentoring a world-class engineering team committed to accelerating the renewable energy transition.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Vision 

  • Define the technical roadmap and engineering strategy for redox flow battery development, establishing achievable milestones that align with company objectives.
  • Translating business requirements into comprehensive engineering plans, ensuring alignment across all technical workstreams and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within your organization.

Team Building & Development 

  • Recruit, develop and inspire a high-performing team of engineers
  • Create an environment that encourages collaboration, rapid learning and professional growth while maintaining high standards of technical excellence and execution.

Battery System Development 

  • Oversee the complete development lifecycle of redox flow battery systems, from conceptual design through commercialization. This includes directing work on electrolyte chemistry optimization, cell architecture design, thermal management, and system integration.
  • Ensure that technical decisions prioritize performance, reliability, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
  • Provide system-level engineering leadership, especially at the interface of battery system, PCS, EMS, SCADA, protection systems and the grid.

BMS & EMS Technical Leadership 

  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment with extensive experience in energy storage systems.
  • Champion the development of sophisticated battery management and energy management solutions that ensure optimal system performance, safety and grid integration capabilities.

Project Execution & Delivery 

  • Demonstrate exceptional project management capabilities, driving complex engineering initiatives to successful completion on schedule and within budget.
  • Ensure timely delivery of prototypes, field trials and production-ready systems while maintaining rigorous quality standards and safety protocols.

Cross-Functional Collaboration 

  • Partner closely with product management, manufacturing, supply chain and commercial teams to ensure engineering solutions meet business objectives and customer requirements. Your collaborative approach will foster seamless integration between technical development and operational excellence.

Required Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with Specialization in Power Systems, Power Electronics, and Control Systems
  • Experience with vanadium redox flow batteries or other flow battery technologies
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant experience with at least 5+ years in a leadership or technical leadership role
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional engineering teams in fast-paced, high-growth environments is essential.
  • Expertise in Battery Management Systems (BMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), and energy storage architectures.
  • Experience with power electronics, control systems, grid integration, grid connection, power systems and PCS/EMS integration.
  • Strong project management and development execution capabilities with a proven track record of delivering complex technical programs and bridging engineering design to site energization and grid acceptance.
  • An innovative thinker who thrives on solving complex technical problems and exploring novel approaches to energy storage challenges.
  • A track record of success thriving in high-growth environments and are motivated by the opportunity to impact the global energy transition through advanced energy storage technology.
