About the role
This is a full-time on-site role for Head of Engineering who is responsible for supporting the daily operations, service standards, team development, and strategic initiatives across Engineering & Sustainability, Housekeeping, and Stewarding functions of the hotel. Serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in either Engineering & Sustainability or Housekeeping & Stewarding, while also providing operational oversight and support in other areas
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and support daily operations of Engineering & Sustainability or Housekeeping & Stewarding, ensuring alignment with brand standards and hotel policies, while providing operational guidance, setting high performance standards
- Support and implement strategic initiatives to improve back-of-house efficiency, elevate cleanliness standards, promote green practices, and reduce operational risks and costs, contributing to a high-performing, environmentally responsible hotel operation and enhanced guest satisfaction.
- Support the Department Head in Green Mark certification and renewal, driving environmental goals and best practices in line with company sustainability frameworks and government regulations.
- Lead and support a strategic project to identify and minimize operational risks through enhanced internal audit procedures and risk mitigation plans.
- Drive departmental projects focusing on Innovative, Sustainability, Productivity, Workplace Safety & Health (WSH) or equivalent projects, offering operational insights and ensuring cross-departmental project success.
- Manage and monitor financial performance by controlling costs and achieving departmental key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Assist the Department Head in contract management, licensing, and vendor negotiations related to back-of-house operations.
- Lead talent management efforts including recruitment, disciplinary actions, performance management, and career development for the team.
- Approve timesheets and leave requests, oversee employees schedules and optimize resource utilization to maintain operational efficiency.
- Support crisis and risk management efforts, including the implementation of emergency response protocols, incident investigations, and corrective actions to ensure guest and employee safety.
- Conduct regular inspections and spot checks to ensure compliance with hygiene, safety, maintenance, and operational standards across all back-of-house departments.
- Manage hotel audits to ensure full compliance with all operational, service standards, and timely resolution of non-conformities.
- Ensure proper handling and compliance with the Chemical Act, Hazardous Substances Act, safety standards and regulations, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of cleaning agents and safety requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
