About the Role
We're working with a tech client that is rebuilding part of its core platform with AI embedded into real production workflows. This isn't an innovation lab or a research role but about designing and scaling systems that are already live (or about to be), and making sure they hold up under real usage.
They're looking for an engineering leader who can think architecturally, stay close to the code and systems when needed, and lead experienced engineers through the next phase of platform evolution.
Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and technical direction of core backend and platform systems
- Lead and grow engineering teams across backend, platform, and data
- Work closely with product and data teams to integrate AI capabilities into production systems
- Make sound architectural decisions around distributed systems, event-driven design, APIs, and cloud infrastructure
- Set engineering standards across testing, deployment, reliability, and observability
- Balance speed of execution with long-term maintainability
- Be a steady technical voice during scaling, refactoring, and platform changes
Requirements
- 12+ years in software engineering, with meaningful experience in architecture and system design
- Experience leading engineering teams
- Strong background in distributed systems and high-scale backend platforms
- Exposure to AI/ML systems in production (e.g., model serving, data pipelines, LLM integrations, evaluation, monitoring)
- Comfortable working with modern cloud infrastructure and containerized environments
- Technically credible, able to go deep when required, but mature enough to operate at leadership level
- Experience in fast growing tech companies, fintech, SaaS, marketplaces, or other large volume platforms would be helpful.
