Job Summary
As Head of Department (Community Care Support), you will lead a team committed to preparing students for meaningful careers in the healthcare and social service sectors. You will oversee curriculum planning, resource management, and instructional design, ensuring alignment with industry standards and NorthLight School's mission to nurture and empower youth through values-driven vocational education.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the department's strategic planning, curriculum development, and resource deployment
- Mentor and guide teachers to enhance instructional quality and professional growth
- Design effective, industry-relevant instructional materials that support experiential and values-based learning
- Create a safe, inclusive, and career-oriented learning environment aligned with NorthLight's mission
- Build strong partnerships with parents, community organizations, and industry stakeholders to enrich student learning and employability
Personal Competencies, Experience, and Qualifications
- Degree or Diploma in Community Care, Healthcare, Nursing, or a related field
- WSQ ACTA and/or ACTEP certification and teaching experience are advantageous
- Minimum 5 years of leadership experience in managing a team within vocational education experience in ITE curriculum will be an added advantage.
- Registered Nurse with leadership experience will be an added advantage
- Strong leadership qualities with the ability to inspire, guide, and influence others toward shared goals
- Proven capability in mentoring and coaching direct reports in building instructional confidence and classroom effectiveness
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to foster collaboration across departments and with external partners
- High level of initiative, adaptability, and problem-solving skills in a dynamic educational environment
- Committed to student development and passionate about vocational education and community care
- Organised and forward-thinking, with the ability to balance strategic planning and day-to-day operations effectively
