The Role
Reporting to senior operational leadership, you will set the technical vision for a platform that underpins data-driven services across multiple sectors. Your remit spans everything from foundational infrastructure decisions to the integration of AI and machine learning capabilities - and you will be expected to engage with the engineering at a level that earns the confidence of your team, not just the confidence of the boardroom.
On any given week, you might be reviewing cloud architecture with your principal engineers, working through a compliance requirement with the security team, presenting a roadmap to senior stakeholders, or solving a hiring challenge that determines whether the team can hit its next milestone. The breadth is real, and so is the ownership.
You will be responsible for:
- Setting and executing the long-term technical roadmap, with AI and data platform capability as a central pillar
- Owning platform architecture decisions across cloud infrastructure, microservices, and API systems
- Ensuring production systems meet the reliability, availability, and performance standards expected of mission-critical services
- Driving mature engineering practices - DevOps, CI/CD, infrastructure automation, observability - across the organisation
- Embedding AI and ML as first-class engineering concerns, not afterthoughts
- Maintaining a security and compliance posture appropriate for regulated and public sector environments
- Building the team: hiring, developing, and retaining strong engineers at all levels
- Serving as the engineering voice in cross-functional and stakeholder conversations, including with government and industry partners
What You Bring
- 10 or more years in software engineering, with at least 5 years leading engineering organisations at a senior level
- Hands-on fluency in cloud-native architecture (AWS, Azure, or GCP), distributed systems, and API platform design
- Real experience integrating AI and ML capabilities at the infrastructure or platform level - not just familiarity with the landscape
- A track record of building and scaling complex platforms, ideally in environments where reliability and security are non-negotiable
- The leadership range to operate effectively with engineers, executives, and external partners - sometimes in the same day
Why This Role
Few engineering leadership roles in Singapore offer this combination of technical depth, organisational influence, and the chance to work on infrastructure that serves a genuinely broad public purpose. If you are the kind of engineer who never fully stopped being an engineer, and you are ready to lead at scale, we would like to hear from you.
