Our client is seeking a Chief Compliance Officer / Head of Compliance for Southeast Asia, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the firm's Compliance programme across the region.
This is a highly strategic leadership role, requiring strong engagement across Southeast Asia as well as regionally in APAC and globally. The role partners closely with Legal, Portfolio Management, Account Management and Operations, and involves regular interaction with senior management.
The successful candidate will act as a trusted advisor and business partner, supporting growth by providing commercially focused, solutions-oriented regulatory guidance, while maintaining a robust and scalable compliance framework.
The role also involves regular engagement with regulators, auditors, and clients.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Business Partnership
Develop and execute a regional Compliance strategy aligned with the firm's growth priorities in Southeast Asia
Act as a strategic advisor to senior management, providing pragmatic guidance on business initiatives, product development and market expansion
Partner with business functions to identify regulatory risks and opportunities, and implement solutions that enable growth
Contribute to regional and global initiatives, ensuring Southeast Asia considerations are represented
Compliance Programme Oversight
Design and implement a forward-looking strategy for compliance risk assessment and mitigation
Maintain a robust compliance framework aligned with regulatory requirements and internal standards
Oversee monitoring, testing and surveillance programmes using a risk-based and scalable approach
Develop and maintain policies and procedures in line with regulatory developments and business evolution
Regulatory Engagement & Governance
Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators across Southeast Asia
Lead regulatory change management and ensure timely implementation across business areas
Represent Compliance in governance forums and provide clear, actionable insights to senior management
Contribute to a strong governance framework supporting sustainable business growth
Business Support & Enablement
Partner with Portfolio Management, Account Management and Operations on compliance implementation
Support business initiatives including new product launches, distribution strategies and market expansion
Provide clear, commercially balanced advice that enables business objectives while managing risk
Position Compliance as a value-added partner to the business
Transformation & Innovation
Drive modernisation of the Compliance function through technology, digitisation and responsible use of AI
Implement data-driven and scalable compliance solutions in collaboration with regional and global teams
Enhance monitoring, surveillance and risk management capabilities through automation
Integrate technology-enabled controls to improve decision-making and governance
Leadership & Team Management
Lead and develop the Southeast Asia Compliance team, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture
Allocate resources effectively across jurisdictions
Promote a strong culture of integrity, accountability and risk awareness
Act as a key leadership figure within the broader regional Compliance organisation
Requirements
Degree in Law, Accounting, Business, Finance, Economics or related discipline
Extensive experience (12-15+ years) in Compliance or Legal roles within asset management or financial services
Strong knowledge of Southeast Asia regulatory frameworks, with multi-jurisdiction experience
Proven track record in designing and enhancing compliance programmes
Demonstrated ability to support business growth initiatives (product development, distribution, expansion)
Preferred Experience
Asset management (institutional and/or retail)
Exposure to fixed income, alternatives or equities
Distribution and marketing regulatory frameworks
Experience in trading, research or portfolio management environments
