We are seeking a Head of Commercial Development – APAC to lead regional commercial strategy, strategic partnerships, and full P&L ownership across the Asia-Pacific region. This role is accountable for driving sustainable revenue growth, overseeing regional commercial performance, and translating strategic alliances into measurable business results across highly diverse APAC healthcare systems.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned pharmaceutical leader with more than 5 years of direct regional P&L leadership experience, strong oncology and/or specialty product commercialization expertise, and deep knowledge of APAC market access and distribution models. This role requires a highly autonomous leader capable of navigating both developed and emerging markets within a complex, multi-country environment. This role will report to Chief Commercial Officer, International Markets.
Key Responsibilities
Regional P&L & Commercial Strategy Leadership
• Own full regional P&L responsibility across APAC, including revenue planning, forecasting, profitability, and budget oversight.
• Define and execute APAC commercial strategies aligned with global portfolio priorities and international growth objectives.
• Lead launch planning, sequencing, and lifecycle management across both developed markets and emerging markets.
• Optimize country prioritization and resource allocation across affiliate and distributor models.
Alliance & Partnership Management
• Lead and manage strategic alliances with pharmaceutical companies, biotech firms, and regional or local distribution partners across APAC.
• Oversee execution of licensing, co-development, co-promotion, and distribution agreements aligned with regional P&L objectives.
• Establish and chair governance structures (Joint Steering Committees, Regional Operating Committees) to ensure accountability and performance.
• Provide senior commercial leadership in deal structuring, negotiations, and ongoing partnership value optimization.
Market Access & Commercial Execution
• Guide regional pricing and reimbursement strategies across diverse APAC systems, including national reimbursement schemes, tender markets, and private-pay environments.
• Collaborate closely with Market Access, HEOR, Medical Affairs, and Regulatory teams to support submissions to authorities such as PMDA, TGA, HSA, MFDS, and other regional agencies.
• Navigate country-specific access pathways, including formulary listings, hospital tendering, and centralized procurement systems.
• Drive commercialization strategies tailored to oncology and specialty products, including biosimilars.
Cross-Functional & Independent Leadership
• Lead complex, cross-functional initiatives across Commercial, Market Access, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Legal, Finance, and Supply Chain functions.
• Act as the senior regional commercial leader with high autonomy and accountability.
• Ensure strong alignment between global strategy and country-level execution.
Strategic Planning & Performance Management
• Develop and execute APAC-specific commercial and alliance strategies.
• Monitor KPIs, affiliate/distributor performance, and commercial outcomes; proactively manage risks and underperformance.
• Contribute to long-range planning, pipeline prioritization, and regional expansion strategies.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Pharmacy, Business, or a related field
• Minimum 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
• More than 5 years of direct regional P&L leadership experience across APAC markets.
• Proven track record in commercialization of oncology and/or specialty medicines within APAC.
• Strong understanding of regional regulatory and reimbursement environments, including developed and emerging markets.
• Demonstrated success managing affiliate and distributor-based business models.
• Experience leading senior, cross-functional teams in a complex, matrixed organization.
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and cross-cultural leadership skills.
• Fluency in English required; additional Asian language capabilities preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience in multinational pharmaceutical or biotechnology companies with regional APAC responsibility.
• Established network across APAC affiliates, distribution partners, and key market stakeholders.
• Experience launching biosimilars and/or complex oncology products in APAC.
• Prior responsibility for regional business expansion or new market entry initiatives.
