Job Description

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced, hands-on Hardware Test & Diagnostics Engineer to own our hardware diagnostics and RMA workflow. You will be the first and final line of defence for returned devices -- triaging failures, executing rework, and closing the loop back to engineering with actionable findings.

No R&D or hardware design background required. What we care about is diagnostic depth, not circuit design credentials. You should be someone who has worked in a fast-moving environment, can self-direct without hand-holding, and brings genuine energy to solving problems that nobody handed you a playbook for.

If you have startup or small team experience and thrive with ownership and pace -- that is exactly the profile we are hiring for.

What You Will Do

RMA Diagnostics

  • Receive, log, and triage returned devices from customers globally
  • Execute structured diagnostic routines to identify root cause -- distinguish hardware faults, firmware issues, handling damage, and environmental failures
  • Document all findings clearly: failure mode, test results, probable root cause, recommended disposition
  • Communicate findings to the engineering team with enough detail to drive product improvements

Test Jig Operation & Improvement

  • Operate existing test jigs for BEAM Nodes and sensor products during RMA validation and pre-shipment QC
  • Identify gaps or weaknesses in current test coverage and recommend improvements
  • Assist in building or refining jig setups as new products or revisions are introduced
  • Maintain jig calibration records and flag anomalies

Rework & Repair

  • Perform component-level rework to a high standard: SMD soldering, module replacement, connector repair
  • Re-flash firmware on repaired units and validate against test criteria before return or re-deployment
  • Maintain a clean, traceable repair log for each unit processed

Quality & Process

  • Support pre-shipment QC checks and help maintain the QC checklist for new product releases
  • Identify recurring failure patterns across RMA batches and surface these to engineering
  • Recommend and help implement improvements to test procedures, rework SOPs, and QC gates

What We Are Looking For

Must Have

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in electronics diagnostics, repair, or test -- in a production, RMA, or repair centre environment
  • Strong SMD rework skills -- fine-pitch components, BGA rework experience is a plus
  • Comfortable using bench equipment: oscilloscope, multimeter, logic analyser, soldering station
  • Ability to read and work from schematics and PCB layouts independently
  • Systematic fault-finding approach -- you work through a diagnostic process, not just replace parts until something works
  • Clear and consistent documentation habits
  • Self-directed and energetic -- you do not wait to be told what to fix next

Good to Have

  • Prior experience in a startup, small team, or fast-paced low-volume high-mix environment
  • Exposure to IoT or wireless hardware (LoRa, BLE, GPS modules, embedded MCUs)
  • Experience operating or building bed-of-nails or pogo-pin test fixtures
  • Familiarity with UART, JTAG, or SWD debug interfaces
  • Experience writing or refining test procedures and work instructions

What This Role Is Not

This is not a production line technician role, and it is not a role for someone who needs a structured corporate environment to thrive. We are not looking for R&D or design experience -- we need someone who independently diagnoses ambiguous failures, engages with engineers on root cause, and drives systematic fixes. If your instinct when you see the same failure three times is to document it and recommend a fix -- and if you have thrived in a scrappy, fast-moving team before -- this role is for you.

What We Offer

  • Direct exposure to a globally deployed IoT hardware product used on major infrastructure projects
  • Flat team structure -- you will work directly with engineers and have visibility into the full product lifecycle
  • Opportunity to shape Ackcio's RMA and quality processes as we scale across APAC, EMEA, and the Americas
  • Competitive compensation benchmarked to senior technician / technical specialist level in Singapore
