The Trade Compliance Officer serves as the global functional head for trade compliance and logistics governance across Advanced MedTech Holdings and its subsidiaries. The role is responsible for ensuring that all import, export, and customs activities comply with international trade laws, medical device regulations, and corporate standards.
This position works closely with Legal & Compliance, Regulatory Affairs, and Operations leadership to safeguard the company's global supply chain, manage regulatory risk exposure, and ensure business continuity across key markets in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
The incumbent will be the company's subject matter expert in customs valuation and trade compliance, able to interpret complex regulatory requirements and translate them into clear, practical processes for global and regional teams
Job Responsibilities
Global Trade Compliance Leadership
- Lead the global logistics and trade compliance function, defining strategy, governance, and compliance standards across all regions (Singapore, Germany, United States, China, Japan, Europe , etc.).
- Develop and maintain global trade compliance policies and procedures aligned with corporate governance standards, Singapore Exchange (SGX) guidelines, and applicable medical device import/export regulations.
- Managing the regional trade compliance programs, procedures, systems, risk assessments, audit plans and relationship with the authorities to ensure compliance with applicable medical device import/export regulations.
- Serve as the internal Center of Excellence for customs and trade matters, providing expert guidance to management and regional teams.
Import & Export Compliance Management
- Oversee the review and approval of import and export documentation to ensure compliance with international customs and export control regulations.
- Validate the correct use of Harmonized System (HS) codes, product classifications, customs valuation, and certificates of origin for all shipments.
- Ensure regulatory readiness or changes for controlled medical devices and restricted technologies, including compliance with:
- U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
- European Union Medical Device Regulation (EU MDR)
- Japan Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW)
- Singapore Health Sciences Authority (HSA) Customs and Clearance Issue Resolution
- Act as the escalation point for global customs clearance issues.
- Liaise with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and regulatory authorities to resolve disputes, inspections, or shipment holds in a timely manner.
- Evaluate and manage customs valuation risks, ensuring alignment with intercompany transfer pricing practices and global tax policies.
Training, Awareness & Continuous Improvement
- Design and deliver global trade compliance training programs for logistics, sales, and customer service teams to strengthen compliance awareness and accountability.
- Provide periodic updates to senior management on emerging regulatory risks, sanctions, and trade control developments, including those related to the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) sanctions.
- Promote a culture of compliance by incorporating real-life case studies and scenario-based learning across regions.
Key Attributes:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, International Business, Law, or a related field.
- At least 810 years of experience in global trade compliance or logistics, preferably within the medical device, pharmaceutical, or life sciences industry.
- Proven expertise in customs valuation, tariff classification, and import/export control compliance.
- Demonstrated experience managing global brokers and freight forwarders, and engaging with customs authorities across multiple jurisdictions (Asia, Europe, and the U.S.).
- Excellent cross functional collaborator that partners effectively with legal & compliance, finance, tax, regulatory affairs, quality assurance and commercial to achieve desired outcomes
- Strong knowledge of international trade frameworks and standards, including:
- Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) certification programs
- International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR)
- Export Administration Regulations (EAR)
-Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)
-Free Trade Agreements (FTA) and rules of origin compliance
- Professional certification such as Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), Certified Export Specialist (CES), or equivalent preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
