Core Duties and Responsibilities
- Site Investigation & Evaluation: Conducting field tests, subsurface investigations, borings, and sampling to evaluate bedrock and soil conditions for development suitability.
- Foundation & Earthworks Design: Designing deep and shallow foundations, retaining walls, slopes, dams, and tunnels, while considering load, soil characteristics, and environmental impacts.
- Geological Hazard Assessment: Assessing risks and mitigating hazards such as slope instability, landslides, erosion, subsidence, and earthquakes.
- Laboratory Testing & Analysis: Analyzing soil and rock samples in laboratory settings to determine properties like strength, compressibility, and permeability.
- Construction Support & Monitoring: Inspecting construction sites, supervising ground improvement techniques, and checking that foundations are built according to engineering specifications.
- Reporting & Modeling: Using specialist computer software (2D/3D modeling) to prepare technical reports, geological maps, and recommendations for stakeholders.
Required Skills and Expertise
- Technical Knowledge: Expertise in geology, soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and civil engineering principles.
- Project Management: Coordinating field investigations, managing project budgets, and collaborating with civil engineers.
- Software Proficiency: Creating analytical models using specialized geotechnical software.
- Field Safety: Ensuring site safety and adhering to environmental regulations.
