The General Counsel, APAC will lead the regional legal function, overseeing all legal, regulatory, and governance matters across a broad and dynamic multi-country environment. This highly strategic position plays a key role in guiding the organisation through complex legal landscapes, enabling business growth, and strengthening risk management across Asia Pacific. You will lead a large, geographically dispersed legal team and work closely with senior leadership to shape the region's legal strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the senior legal advisor for APAC, supporting executives on strategic, commercial, and regulatory matters.
- Lead, mentor, and manage a regional legal team of counsels across multiple jurisdictions.
- Define and execute the regional legal strategy aligned with global priorities and business objectives.
- Oversee negotiation and review of complex commercial, technology, distribution, and enterprise contracts.
- Advise on supplier, partner, cloud, licensing, and digital-related legal matters within the tech/IT/telco ecosystem.
- Ensure compliance with regional regulations including data protection, competition, anti-bribery/anti-corruption, and consumer laws.
- Manage corporate governance activities, entity maintenance, and board-level matters across APAC.
- Identify legal risks early and lead mitigation, remediation, and internal policy improvements.
- Manage disputes, investigations, regulatory interactions, litigation, and external counsel engagements.
- Partner with global and cross-functional teams (sales, HR, finance, supply chain, operations, compliance) to support commercial and operational decisions.
Requirements
- 15+ years of post-qualification legal experience in multinational environments; strong preference for IT, tech, or telco backgrounds.
- Demonstrated experience leading large, geographically dispersed legal teams.
- Strong track record managing complex cross-border matters across SEA (ideally India, China).
- Deep understanding of regional legal frameworks, regulatory environments, and commercial risk management.
- Strong commercial acumen with the ability to balance legal risk with business strategy.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills at senior and executive levels.
- High degree of cultural sensitivity, with proven success operating across diverse APAC markets.
- Experience collaborating with global headquarters.
