We're looking for an experienced Freight Accountant to join a growing finance function in Singapore, reporting directly to the Head of Accounting. You'll take ownership of the finance operations for a newly established shipping entity and play a key role in supporting one of the business's fastest-growing divisions.
The Opportunity
You'll be responsible for the end-to-end accounting of a specialist freight shipping business, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance and commercial insight while partnering closely with operational and trading teams.
What You'll Be Doing
- Own the accounting for ocean freight activities, including freight revenue, voyage costs, lease accounting and ancillary expenses.
- Lead monthly close processes, reconciliations and financial reporting.
- Partner with commercial and operations teams to ensure accurate revenue recognition.
- Produce freight margin analysis and cost allocation reporting for senior leadership.
- Maintain accurate financial records in line with Singapore accounting and tax regulations.
- Support statutory audits and prepare audit schedules.
- Drive continuous improvement across accounting processes and reporting.
- Deliver both standard and ad hoc financial analysis for senior executives and stakeholders.
- Act as the finance subject matter expert, ensuring robust controls and accounting best practice.
About You
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- ACA, ACCA or equivalent professional qualification.
- 5+ years accounting experience, including at least two years within shipping, freight or maritime.
- Strong understanding of ocean freight operations and documentation.
- Experience with lease accounting (IFRS 16 preferred).
- Experience working within a Singapore Maritime Sector Incentive (MSI-ASIS) environment is highly advantageous.
- Exposure to VESON IMOS would be a bonus.
- Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills.
