Role Description The Freelance Documentary Producer will develop, pitch, and produce long-form documentary content that aligns with CNA's editorial standards and focuses on Asian stories and perspectives. Day-to-day responsibilities include researching topics, identifying compelling narratives, sourcing contributors, and coordinating interviews and field shoots. The producer will be responsible for scripting, production planning, on-location directing, and post-production, working closely with editors, camera crews, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality documentaries to schedule. This is a contract role with a hybrid work arrangement, based in Singapore, combining on-site production work with work-from-home flexibility. The producer will collaborate with CNA's editorial team to ensure factual accuracy, ethical reporting, and strong visual storytelling.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in documentary or long-form video production, including research, scripting, and story development.
  • Strong skills in planning and managing shoots, coordinating crews, and directing interviews and on-location production.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with editors, journalists, and technical teams throughout pre-production and post-production.
  • Familiarity with current affairs and socio-political issues in Asia, and the ability to translate complex topics into accessible narratives.
  • Proficiency with production workflows; experience with editing software and digital media tools is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; additional Asian languages are a plus.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines, and adapt to evolving editorial priorities.
  • Prior experience in broadcast, digital news, or documentary environments; a relevant degree or equivalent professional experience is preferred.
