Job Description

Client:

A climate technology firm focused on enabling green financing and the voluntary carbon market. Backed by a leading global bank and a leading French Energy company. The organisation are developing innovative digital solutions to streamline processes for carbon credit projects, with a mission to empower project owners, financiers, and other stakeholders in sustainability. Their digital platform is designed to develop and finance carbon credit projects.

This role will contribute to scaling climate action in critical geographies for global carbon markets.

Scope:

As a new corporate backed venture, they are currently struggling to keep up with the risk management and controls requirements. This role will operate as a fractional risk lead supporting the company to establish necessary policies, controls and governance needed for full market launch and approval.

As a Risk Lead, you will report directly to the CEO and be responsible for:

  • overseeing risk controls, their assessment and suitable mitigations across the firm.
  • ensuring that systems are put in place for regular reporting of risk metrics, and efficient implementation of controls.
  • Establish necessary governance is maintained e.g the Executive Risk Committee and make sure the Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) is implemented and run successfully.

This is a great opportunity to build and shape a new high profile venture. The initial engagement will be 1 day a week, for 4 months, with the potential to ramp up and down as mutually agreed with the client and based on the scope of work.

Role and Responsibilities

Process Ownership:

  • Implement an Enterprise Risk Management Framework.
  • Perform a Risk and Control Self-assessment, and guide the business owners in each area, such as Product, Technology, Sales and Finance to own, and report this in their own areas.
  • Redesign of the current processes for automation, ease and simplicity is valued.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Risk Committee to make sure key risks are always fully covered.
  • Help the Board, which comprises of leading multinationals, get comfort that the Executive Risk Committee is able to manage and implement an effective ERMF

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in an Risk role
  • Ability to work well in a matrix organisation
  • Excellent skills with Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, and ability to hone in on key points for senior management focus

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of MS Visio, or similar project management tolls will be a plus.
  • Understanding of carbon credit standards (Verra, Gold Standard, Puro, etc.).
  • Experience with ESG risk modeling, impact assessment, or climate data analytics.
  • A background in law will be helpful.

Domain Knowledge

  • Information Classification
  • Mastery of Risk and Control Self-Assessment.
  • Prior knowledge of ERMF implemented at a large multinational would be ideal.
  • Operations-oriented, and good at making process flow documentation, and following it, systematically.
  • Knowledge of Banking requirements related to Financial Crime, and Compliance would be critical, as our majority shareholder is a major listed bank.

Team Management & Delivery

  • Report to the CEO
  • Part of the Executive Risk Committee.
  • Access to Board Members, for escalations.
