Job Description

A forklift operator is responsible for safely and efficiently moving materials in warehouses, factories, construction sites, or shipping areas. Specific responsibilities typically include:

  1. Operating the Forklift

    • Safely operate forklifts or other powered industrial trucks.

    • Load, unload, move, and stack materials accurately.

  2. Material Handling

    • Transport goods to designated areas within the warehouse or facility.

    • Assist with shipping, receiving, and inventory management.

  3. Inspection and Maintenance

    • Conduct daily pre-operation checks of the forklift (oil, fuel, brakes, etc.).

    • Report any mechanical issues or damages immediately.

    • Perform minor maintenance as required.

  4. Safety Compliance

    • Follow OSHA (or local) safety regulations.

    • Ensure loads are stable and secure during transport.

    • Maintain a clean and organized work area to prevent accidents.

  5. Documentation

    • Record materials moved, received, or shipped.

    • Keep logs of inspections, maintenance, and incidents.

  6. Teamwork

    • Coordinate with warehouse staff, supervisors, and inventory teams.

Forklift operators need a combination of technical, physical, and soft skills:

Technical Skills:

  • Forklift operation and maneuvering.

  • Basic mechanical knowledge for inspection and minor repairs.

  • Knowledge of warehouse safety procedures and regulations.

  • Inventory management systems familiarity (optional but a plus).

Physical Skills:

  • Strength and stamina for lifting and moving heavy materials.
