Job Description

Role Overview

As Legal Counsel (Singapore & Malaysia), you will be the principal legal advisor for our local business teams. Your focus will be on corporate structuring, regulatory compliance, labour law, commercial contracts. You will work closely with business units (operations, supply chain, HR, finance) and external counsel to enable compliant and efficient execution of our regional strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advise on incorporation and structuring of local entities , including compliance with foreign investment rules and corporate governance requirements.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements essential to operations: supply agreements, logistics contracts, warehousing arrangements, and service provider agreements.
  • Offer advice on employment law matters.
  • Support workplace safety and industrial relations matters relevant to warehouse and distribution centre operations.
  • Address legal issues arising from Sino-foreign joint arrangements, cross-border payments, and coordination of group policies across jurisdictions.
  • Identify and navigate licensing and regulatory requirements for retail, e-commerce, food handling, and logistics activities in Singapore and Malaysia.
  • Support market entry processes, including preparation of compliance documentation, engagement with regulators, and risk assessments relating to local laws.
  • Manage pre-litigation issues and coordinate with external counsel on disputes, including commercial, labour, and regulatory matters.
  • Qualifications

    Education & Legal Background

    • Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B./J.D.) from a reputable university.
    • Admission to practice law in Singapore or Malaysia (or equivalent qualification recognized in these jurisdictions).

    Experience

    • Strong experience and knowledge of laws and regulations in Singapore and Malaysia.
    • Minimum 5 years of post-qualification experience, with prior exposure to cross-border transactions or multinational business environments preferred.
    • Excellent command of English. Proficiency in Mandarin is an added advantage as the role involves regular communication with stakeholders in China.
    • Strong analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills; able to balance legal precision with commercial needs.
    • Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, multicultural setting.
