About the Role:

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Financial Controller to join our team in Australia. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the organisation, ensuring the accuracy of financial reporting, and driving financial strategy. You will lead the finance team, manage budgeting and forecasting processes, and ensure compliance with local regulations, including Australian tax laws and accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage the day-to-day financial operations of the organisation, including accounting, reporting, and financial controls.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow reports.
  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support strategic planning and decision-making.
  • Monitor financial performance against budget and provide regular analysis to senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with Australian accounting standards (e.g., AASB) and tax regulations (e.g., GST, PAYG).
  • Lead and manage the financial closing process at month-end, quarter-end, and year-end, including preparation for audits.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance and best practices.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the accuracy of financial records.
  • Provide financial guidance and support to senior leadership in decision-making and strategic initiatives.
  • Prepare and file all required tax returns, including BAS (Business Activity Statement), and ensure compliance with Australian tax laws.
  • Lead and mentor the finance team, ensuring professional development and effective performance.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings across the organisation.
Key Requirements:
  • A strong background in financial management, accounting, or related fields.
  • Professional accounting qualification (e.g., CA, CPA) or equivalent is required.
  • Significant experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • In-depth knowledge of Australian accounting standards (AASB) and tax regulations (GST, PAYG).
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., MYOB, Xero, QuickBooks, ERP systems).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide strategic financial insights.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and senior management.
  • A degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Desirable Skills:
  • Experience with financial modelling and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, Power BI).
  • Familiarity with corporate governance and regulatory requirements for Australian businesses.
  • Knowledge of financial risk management strategies.
  • Experience in an industry-specific financial management role (e.g., manufacturing, services, technology).
  • Experience with international finance and multi-currency transactions is a plus.
