Job Description

A prestigious private equity investment firm, renowned for its impactful work in oil and gas infrastructure and offshore equipment projects across Africa, is seeking a Senior Finance Advisor to join team. This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned finance professional to play a pivotal role in shaping the financial strategy of large-scale cross-border projects, working closely with China based equipment manufacturers, global investors, and leading financial institutions.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Finance Advisor - Structured Finance (China and Africa Focus), you will be instrumental in enabling the successful delivery of ambitious infrastructure projects by providing expert guidance on capital structuring and funding strategies. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve collaborating closely with senior leadership to shape financial approaches that support business expansion across Africa through strong partnerships with China based financiers. You will engage deeply with stakeholders from multiple geographies-navigating cultural nuances while negotiating complex deals-and ensure that each project benefits from optimal funding solutions. By leveraging your extensive experience in structured finance and your ability to communicate effectively at all organisational levels, you will help drive sustainable growth while fostering long-term relationships that underpin future success.

  • Lead and advise on capital raising activities within China, including structured debt arrangements, supplier financing initiatives, and equity funding strategies tailored for large-scale infrastructure projects.
  • Design and implement sophisticated financing structures such as export credit facilities, Sinosure-backed credit enhancement mechanisms, China Exim Bank frameworks, supplier credit agreements, and China-Africa investment fund models.
  • Evaluate a wide range of funding options to optimise capital structure for cross-border ventures, ensuring alignment with both project requirements and investor expectations.
  • Act as the primary financial interface with equipment suppliers, banks, financial institutions, investment partners, and government-linked entities, nsuring clear communication and effective negotiation outcomes.
  • Support negotiations on complex financing terms, supplier contracts, and multi-party funding arrangements to secure favourable conditions for all parties involved.
  • Present comprehensive financial strategies and deal structures to C-suite executives, investors, shareholders, and other key decision-makers in both formal boardroom settings and informal discussions.
  • Provide financial leadership throughout the entire deal lifecycle-from initial feasibility assessments through execution-ensuring robust risk evaluation and commercial viability at every stage.
  • Structure project financing solutions specifically tailored for infrastructure and energy investments in emerging markets, taking into account unique regional challenges and opportunities.
  • Advise commercial teams on cross-border transaction frameworks, risk mitigation strategies, and compliance considerations relevant to international project finance.
  • Develop and nurture strategic relationships within financial institutions, export credit agencies, investor ecosystems, and other critical networks to facilitate ongoing access to capital.

What You Bring

To excel as a Senior Finance Advisor - Structured Finance (China and Africa Focus), you will bring a wealth of proven experience from senior roles where you have shaped financial strategy for major cross-border projects. Your background should include significant exposure to structured finance transactions-ideally within sectors like energy infrastructure or resources, and hands-on involvement in capital raising efforts involving China institutions. You are adept at navigating multicultural business settings and possess the emotional intelligence required to build rapport with stakeholders from varied backgrounds. Your analytical skills allow you to assess complex funding proposals critically while your communication style ensures clarity when presenting recommendations at board level. A collaborative approach underpins your work ethic; you thrive when sharing knowledge with colleagues or supporting commercial teams through challenging negotiations. Above all else, your commitment to responsible financial stewardship makes you a dependable advisor who inspires confidence among peers.

  • Extensive senior finance leadership experience at Director, CFO-equivalent, Partner or Senior Advisor level within international or cross-border contexts.
  • Proven track record in structured finance or project finance with direct involvement in large-scale capital raising activities across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Demonstrated expertise working with financing institutions-including banks, export credit agencies such as Sinosure or China Exim Bank-and equipment suppliers on complex funding arrangements.
  • Exposure to African markets or other emerging economies is highly advantageous; familiarity with local regulatory environments will be beneficial.
  • Background in sectors such as oil & gas infrastructure, energy projects, mining/resources development, engineering/construction (EPC), heavy equipment manufacturing or similar industries preferred.
  • Deep technical knowledge of export credit financing structures-including Sinosure-backed enhancements-and experience designing supplier credit frameworks or China-linked investment funds.
  • Exceptional commercial acumen with the ability to evaluate intricate financing structures for risk/return profiles while supporting business objectives.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills enabling you to influence board members, investors, C-suite executives and other high-level stakeholders across diverse cultures.
  • Strong negotiation abilities combined with relationship-management skills that foster trust among partners from different backgrounds.
  • Strategic mindset paired with hands-on deal execution capability; comfortable operating in fast-evolving international environments requiring adaptability.
