Job Description

ABOUT LUMILENS

At Lumilens we are building the critical photonics infrastructure that powers tomorrow's AI supercomputing. From chip-to-chip optical interconnects to scalable photonic engines, Lumilens is unlocking a new era of computing faster, cooler, and massively more efficient.

We're a well-funded startup backed by Mayfield and led by veterans who've built and scaled some of the most transformative technologies in the industry. At Lumilens, we're developing high-speed photonics products purpose built to power the future of AI infrastructure and high-performance computing. This isn't incremental innovation, it's a ground floor opportunity to rethink the optical layer from the silicon up.

You'll work alongside a team of world class engineers solving some of the hardest challenges in scaling optical systems. Every line of code, every design decision, every breakthrough you help deliver will shape the infrastructure of tomorrow. If you're looking for mission, momentum, and the chance to make an outsized impact, jump on the rocket ship. We're just getting started.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Failure Analysis Engineer at Lumilens, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and performance of our advanced optical transceiver products. You'll lead the investigation of optical, electrical, and mechanical failures either from field deployments or production testing, using schematics, test equipment, and fault isolation techniques to identify root causes and drive corrective actions. Partnering closely with R&D, supplier quality, and production teams, you'll document findings, assess field risks, and communicate insights that directly influence product design and manufacturing improvements. This role also involves developing new test infrastructure, writing automation scripts for customer switches, and occasionally engaging directly with customers on technical inquiries. It's a highly collaborative, hands-on position at the intersection of engineering, quality, and innovation. This role is ideal for someone passionate about problem solving and driving continuous improvement in cutting edge optical technologies.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for optical, mechanical and electrical analysis/troubleshooting of optical transceivers returned from field deployment or internal testing.
  • Troubleshoot failures using schematics, test equipment, switches, fault isolation techniques, and Design of Experiments
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including supplier quality engineers, to determine the root cause(s) and appropriate improvement/corrective actions
  • Thorough documentation of all test and failure analysis results, including photographs, test data, and repair work
  • Interface with production databases to extract original shipment information, test data, and traceability information.
  • Assess field risk based on understanding of failure modes and field data utilizing available reliability tools
  • Analyze and present periodic and timely updates on failure analysis progress and reliability estimates to R&D, corporate teams, and customers
  • Engage in discussion with customers and respond to direct technical inquiries
  • Bring-up new internal and external test infrastructure to validate failure signatures observed in customer environments
  • Develop test scripts to operate and report data from customer switches
  • Experience in datacenter architecture is a plus
  • SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

    • Minimum 5 yr. experience of related experience. Experiences in transceiver module tests at 400G, 800G, 1.6T, etc., are preferred.
    • BS/MS in physics, electrical/Mechanical engineering or other relevant field or equivalent experience
    • Extensive knowledge of and experience working with analog and digital circuits
    • Familiar with MSA and customer standards/requirements
    • Familiar with basic failure analysis techniques/methodologies
    • Strong device physics background
    • Fundamental understanding of OSA assembly and its periphery circuits
    • Knowledge of OSA assemblies, PCBA, and module manufacturing processes is an added advantage
    • Working knowledge of device characterization and its techniques
    • Strong data analysis skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
