We are seeking a highly experienced and technically proficient Facilities Mechanical Principal Engineer to lead the engineering, maintenance, and strategic development of site-wide mechanical systems supporting advanced semiconductor manufacturing.
This role is critical to ensuring the safety, reliability, resilience, and efficiency of mechanical infrastructure, including cleanroom and utility systems. The successful candidate will act as a site-level technical authority, partnering closely with cross-functional teams to align mechanical strategies with site, corporate, and departmental goals.
The Principal Mechanical Engineer is expected to deliver visible impact at the program and project level, drive innovation through advanced technologies and digital tools, and actively mentor and develop engineering talent, strengthening both technical depth and leadership capability within the organization
Job Responsibilities:
Safety, Compliance & Operational Excellence
Champion environmental, health, and safety (EHS) compliance across all mechanical operations, ensuring adherence to corporate policies, local regulations, and site SOPs.
Lead risk assessments, FMEA, and hazard mitigation activities to eliminate single points of failure and enhance system resilience.
Promote a strong culture of operational discipline, safe work practices, and quality execution.
Mechanical Systems Leadership & Technical Authority
Lead the design, commissioning, operation, and optimization of Facilities mechanical systems, including but not limited to:
Cleanroom HVAC and air systems
Chilled water, heating water, and process cooling water (PCW)
Exhaust and abatement systems (scrubbers)
Chillers, boilers, cooling towers
Compressed air, vacuum, and general HVAC systems
Fire protection and life safety mechanical systems
Provide expert-level technical support for complex operational issues and production interruptions, serving as the escalation point for critical system events.
Reliability, Troubleshooting & Incident Management
Lead root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methodologies (8D, 5-Why, data-driven analysis).
Conduct post-incident reviews and drive corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence and improve long-term reliability.
Drive site-wide system reliability improvement initiatives to maximize equipment uptime and minimize production risk.
Capacity Planning, Expansion & Project Execution
Oversee capacity tracking and long-range planning for mechanical systems to support fab growth, technology transitions, and max-out scenarios.
Lead cleanroom and utility system expansion projects, from concept through execution, to meet future manufacturing tool demands.
Review and validate scope, schedule, cost estimates, and technical designs for infrastructure upgrades.
Provide engineering oversight during design, construction, and commissioning phases, ensuring safe and robust system delivery.
Sustainability & Energy Efficiency
Drive strategic initiatives focused on energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste reduction, aligning with Micron sustainability and MEES objectives.
Identify, evaluate, and implement advanced mechanical technologies that deliver measurable improvements in efficiency, cost, and environmental performance.
Digitalization, SMART Facilities & Innovation
Spearhead the deployment of SMART Facilities initiatives, including predictive maintenance, advanced analytics, and system automation, in collaboration with controls and digital teams.
Champion the use of AI, digital twins, and data-driven tools to improve system intelligence, maintenance effectiveness, and team productivity.
Enable smart enablement for project tracking, maintenance overviews, and budget visibility.
Talent Development & Leadership
Mentor and develop mechanical engineers and technicians through structured training, coaching, and hands-on site engagement.
Foster technical excellence, critical thinking, and leadership capability within the mechanical engineering team.
Support succession planning and capability building for long-term organizational strength.
Operations & Commercial Support
Ensure execution and continuous improvement of preventive and corrective maintenance programs to achieve optimal system performance and uptime.
Oversee spare parts and consumables strategy, ensuring availability and cost effectiveness.
Support procurement activities using ARIBA / SAP, including technical reviews for services and materials related to Facilities mechanical systems.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's Degree preferred).
Minimum 8-10 years of experience in Facilities Mechanical Engineering within semiconductor or advanced manufacturing environments.
Proven experience leading complex mechanical systems, site expansions, and reliability improvement programs.
Deep expertise in semiconductor Facilities Mechanical and Process Systems, including cleanroom HVAC, chilled water, PCW, exhaust, abatement, compressed air, vacuum, and fire protection systems.
Strong knowledge of maintenance practices, system installation, commissioning, and lifecycle management.
Proficiency in structured problem-solving and quality tools such as 8D, 5-Why, and data analysis methodologies.
Familiarity with SMART Facilities, predictive maintenance, and sustainability initiatives is highly advantageous.
Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills able to clearly articulate complex technical concepts.

Plans facilities changes for plant, office, and production equipment layouts, working toward economy of operation, maximum use of facilities and equipment, and compliance with laws and regulations. Coordinates with architecture/engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings. Prepares bid sheets and contracts for construction and facilities acquisition. Reviews and estimates design costs including equipment, installation, labor, materials, preparation and other related costs. Inspects construction and installation progress for conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules. Develops criteria and performance specifications required to meet unique operating requirements and building and safety codes.
