Asia-Pacific Syndicated Finance Department (ASFD) is responsible for Loan Capital Markets businesses in whole Asia-Pacific (APAC) region excluding Japan, mainly comprising of loan origination to borrower clients as well as loan distribution to investors.
ASFD collaborates with RMs globally in corporate banking departments/branches from 3 different locations Singapore (SG), Hong Kong (HK) and Sydney with over 20 professionals with a diversity of skills and experience. Mizuho basically maintains within Top 10 in League Table Ranking of Mandated Lead Arranger & Bookrunner in APAC.
Your key roles & responsibilities include:
- To be responsible for profit/performance management for ASFD, including negotiation for target setting with Regional Headquarter, KPI revision, and periodic progress reports to MEOs/APD etc.
- Assist ASFD GM/JGM/Section Heads to formulate business strategies, to develop framework to pursue business opportunities/new products, to ensure adherence and compliance with all relevant internal procedures/regulation/laws, and to monitor underwriting risks.
- Liaise with relevant departments/teams in Mizuho FG entities globally: APAC, Japan/HO, US/EMEA region, in order to explore business opportunities for both primary syndicated loans/loan trading and to manage transaction related risks e.g. conflict of interests/compliance appropriately.
- Support/collaborate with RMs mainly in APAC/Japan to propose primary syndicated loans, including ESG loans, to client borrowers especially for Japanese and overseas Japanese clients.
- Coordinate with RMs/Credit Departments in charge/APD for obtaining MEO approval for all underwriting syndicated loan transactions, and to monitor underwriting risk after commitment to borrowers.
- Build good relationships mainly with Japanese investors, e.g. banks/NBFIs/life insurance not only in SG/HK, but also in Japan, through providing them with APAC syndicated loan market intelligence etc.
What you should have:
- A Bachelor's Degree.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in syndicated finance businesses and industries/corporate research, especially better to have experience in risk assessment of overseas underwriting syndicated loans in APAC/US/EMEA and/or in credit risk assessment of APAC clients.
- Experience of working in Financial Institutions for stipulating business strategies and establishing risk management framework would be advantageous.
- Desirable to have experience in relationship management/solution provider with financial institutions/banks for building good relationships with loan investors.
- Leadership experience in managing a team will be advantageous.
- Strong interpersonal and business writing skills are attributes that will help the candidate perform successfully in this role.
- Business-level proficiency in English and Japanese will be advantageous as the incumbent is expected to read & understand documents as well as respond & communicate in these two languages to our global offices and Head Office in Japan.
