The Group Head & Executive Director for Business Planning oversees the strategic planning and business management functions for SMBC's Wholesale Banking operations in India. Based in Singapore with a solid-line reporting to the Co-Heads of Corporate and Investment Banking, India, the role ensures coherent strategy execution, portfolio optimization, global connectivity, and disciplined business governance across Corporate & Investment Banking activities in India. The role also supports future-state governance preparation in anticipation of potential wholly own subsidization.
Strategic Planning & CIB Model Design (India Market)
- Lead the design, enhancement, and governance of the CIB operating model for India.
- Define the target state coverage framework across major client segments.
- Ensure alignment with SMBC global sector coverage and risk appetite.
- Drive mid- to long-term business planning initiatives.
- Assist with new strategic ideas and their implementation
Regional-Global Coordination (SMBC Global Platform)
- Act as key interface between India onshore teams and global units, including India CIB team in Singapore.
- Integrate India-originated opportunities with global account plans.
- Coordinate strategic dialogues across regional and product partners.
Business Management & Portfolio Oversight
- Oversee portfolio management including revenue analytics and profitability monitoring.
- Lead budgeting cycles and performance management for Wholesale Banking India.
- Establish MIS, dashboards, and KPI frameworks.
- Ensure alignment with credit risk on sector strategies and portfolio limits.
Partnership Management & Internal Coordination
- Coordinate with Risk, Finance, HR, Compliance, Operations, and Legal across regions.
- Strengthen collaboration with SMBC Group companies.
Operational Governance & Process Excellence
- Oversee management processes including internal controls and operational planning.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory expectations from RBI, SEBI, MAS, and JFSA.
- Maintain disciplined management reporting to HQ and regional committees.
- Prepare future-state governance framework for wholly own subsidization.
People Leadership & Cross-Border Team Management
- Lead and coach a cross-border planning team.
- Promote a high-performance, transparent culture.
- Develop future leaders for SMBC India franchise.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills
- 10+ years experience in Wholesale Banking or CIB Strategy.
