THIS IS A 2-YEAR CONTRACT ROLE.
The Collections Team within the Curatorial and Collections Department of Defence Collective Singapore cares for and facilitates access to the collections of the five entities within the organisation (namely, Singapore Discovery Centre, NS-Themed Gallery, Singapore Airforce, Army, and Navy Museums) by supporting collecting institutions in exhibitions and research and the practice of preventive conservation.
In this role, you will be part of a dynamic and driven team passionate about artefact and heritage preservation. You will also be exposed to gain and accumulate varied specialised knowledge and experiences in collections care and management that are essential for the role.
Responsibilities
- Perform collection accessioning duties, e.g., checking conditions, recording information, and performing visual documentation.
- Support museum exhibitions, rotations, and loan projects through activities such as receiving new acquisitions, managing artefact lists, facilitating access to storage, retrieving artefacts for conservation, packing, and coordinating.
- Manage storage repositories and maintain accountability of the collection per established policies, SOPs, guidelines, and preventive conservation/housekeeping practices
- Perform annual stocktake and assist with audits
- Ensure collections data are accurately maintained in the collections database, and artefact movements are accurately captured and updated
- Supervise art handlers and external contractors
- Any other ad-hoc duties and projects assigned
Requirements
- Fresh graduates with the right attitude and aptitude will be considered
- Candidate with relevant working experience will have an advantage
- Degree relevant to collections management work, such as museum studies, preventive conservation, information science, business/arts management, or a combination of related training and experience
- Meticulous, organised and independent
- Willing to learn and able to multi-task and handle multiple concurrent projects
- Possess good time management skills, positive attitude and good teamwork, communication and writing skills
- Competent in MS Office and able to quickly pick up computer skills and knowledge
- Keen interest in museology
