This role involves conducting routine and non-routine environmental analyses, including habitat water sampling and testing, soil, rainwater, and run-off microbiology and physicochemical assessments, as well as air quality monitoring under various weather conditions. Responsibilities also include maintaining laboratory equipment to manufacturer standards, assisting with inventory reporting, and ensuring accurate and timely reporting of results to relevant team members. Additionally, the role supports clinical diagnostic laboratory work and medication preparation, while maintaining a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
Job Responsibilities:
- Carry out habitats water sample collection, routine and non-routine water quality analysis, soil, run-off and rainwater bacteriology and air quality surveys.
- Collect water samples and perform daily physicochemical analyses from the habitats.
- Collect soil, rain and run-off samples and performs physicochemical and microbiology analyses.
- Perform air quality analysis in different weather conditions (i.e. haze, poor air quality).
- Ensure that all instruments, equipment, laboratory fixtures, glassware and general laboratory ware in the Environmental Health laboratory are properly maintained to manufacturer specifications for optimal performance.
- Assist in preparing monthly inventory reports on supplies and reagents.
- Prepare and report all results accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring all necessary team members are informed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Assist in clinical diagnostic laboratory analysis.
- Assist in medicines preparation.
Job Requirements:
- Degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science or equivalent.
- Familiar with Windows-based MS Office programs including word processing (MS Word), spreadsheets (MS Excel), and presentations (MS PowerPoint).
- Familiar with basic laboratory instrumentation purposes and operations.
- Demonstrative ability to perform all analysis.
- Able to think critically to assess, interpret and report anomalies of data.
- Must be able to work as a team player in a dynamic work environment.
- Possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable and willing to work with animals.
- Comfortable working in an aquatic environment.
