Job Description

About GlobalFoundries

GlobalFoundries is a leading full-service semiconductor foundry providing a unique combination of design, development, and fabrication services to some of the world's most innovative technology companies. With a global manufacturing footprint spanning three continents, GlobalFoundries enables the technologies that transform industries and empower customers to shape their markets.

Role Summary

GlobalFoundries Singapore is seeking highly motivated Engineering WSDegree Interns to support Test Engineering within a high-volume semiconductor manufacturing environment. This internship provides progressive exposure to semiconductor testing fundamentals, data-driven quality and yield monitoring, and continuous improvement, culminating in a Final Year Project (FYP) aligned with real manufacturing and product test challenges.

Key Responsibilities

Block 1: Foundational Learning & Exploration

  • Learn semiconductor manufacturing fundamentals and the end-to-end product flow from wafer fabrication through electrical testing
  • Understand the role of test engineering in ensuring product quality, reliability, and customer requirements
  • Learn cleanroom and lab safety standards, protocols, and factory operations basics
  • Gain exposure to test flow concepts, test limits/specifications, and basic test metrics
  • Become familiar with MES, data systems, and engineering workflows used in manufacturing and test operations
  • Job shadow Test Engineers to understand daily operational support, monitoring, and problem-solving activities

Block 2: Test Data Analysis & Problem Solving

  • Support monitoring of test performance using key indicators (e.g., yield, bin trends, parametric shifts, and fallout signatures)
  • Perform data analysis to identify trends, anomalies, and potential test or product issues
  • Apply statistical methods (e.g., SPC) to detect excursions and support process stability
  • Assist with basic troubleshooting of test-related issues (e.g., correlation checks, limit reviews, retest investigations)
  • Support documentation of findings and communication of results to cross-functional stakeholders

Block 3 & Final Year Project (FYP): Engineer‑in‑Training Development

  • Define FYP scope, objectives, and deliverables with an assigned industrial mentor
  • Execute an FYP focused on test improvement, test data analytics, yield enhancement, or stability optimization
  • Conduct structured studies (and where applicable, DOE / A-B comparisons) to validate improvement ideas
  • Develop recommendations to improve test robustness, reduce test escapes, improve yield, or optimize test efficiency
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives supporting cost, quality, productivity, or cycle time
  • Complete the FYP under guidance of an assigned industrial mentor

Skills & Experience Gained

Technical Skills

  • Understanding of semiconductor test fundamentals and manufacturing flow
  • Knowledge of yield/test metrics, basic failure signatures, and test stability concepts
  • Data analysis, SPC, and structured root cause / problem-solving approaches
  • Exposure to test methodologies, specifications/limits concepts, and quality systems

Soft Skills

  • Technical communication, reporting, and presentation skills
  • Collaboration across cross-functional teams (manufacturing, process, yield, quality, product)
  • Exposure to AI and Machine Learning concepts applied to test/manufacturing data analytics

Practical Experience

  • Hands-on experience supporting real production test monitoring and investigations
  • Project ownership within a high-volume semiconductor environment
  • Networking opportunities across engineering teams and manufacturing leadership

Required Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or related Engineering degree
  • Strong analytical and data-driven problem-solving mindset
  • Curious, detail-oriented, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work well in teams

Additional Information

  • This requisition is exclusively for students enrolled in the WSDegree Programme (2026 intake)
  • Internship period must be clearly stated in the CV, resume, or cover letter
