I'm supporting a leading AI company in hiring an Engineering Manager / VP of Engineering (Go) to lead and scale a core backend team. You will lead backend architecture and execution while managing and mentoring a team of senior engineers, shaping both technical direction and engineering culture.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and operation of backend systems in Go, with strong emphasis on data compliance, reliability, and multi-region architecture
- Act as a hands-on technical leader (player-coach), contributing directly to system design and critical code paths
- Drive technical strategy and execution for overseas marketing and growth systems (e.g. Klaviyo), ensuring scalability, security, and compliance across regions
- Own end-to-end delivery of backend initiatives, from requirements and design to production rollout and operations
- Ensure production stability through robust monitoring, alerting, incident response, and continuous improvement
- Build, mentor, and manage a backend team
- Foster a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and high engineering standards
- Collaborate closely with Product, Data, Compliance, and Infrastructure teams to translate business goals into scalable backend solutions
Minimum Qualifications
- 8+ years of backend engineering experience, with strong foundations in system design and distributed systems
- Very strong Golang experience (MUST) ideally having designed or built backend architecture from the ground up
- Proven experience managing or leading engineering teams of 10 people, including Senior Engineers
- Hands-on experience with AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, CloudWatch, etc.)
- Strong ownership mindset with a track record of leading end-to-end projects
- Excellent problem-solving skills, especially in production reliability, scalability, and incident handling
- Mandarin and English are required due to the need to communicate with Mandarin and English speaking clients and counterparts
