Engineering Manager, Payment Systems

Job Description

We are looking for an Engineering Manager, Payment Systems to lead the overall architecture design and technical planning of the company's payment platform systems supporting overseas business operations and future regional expansion.

This role will be responsible for designing scalable, secure and high-availability systems across transaction processing, routing, settlement, reconciliation, ledger management, risk control integration and external partner connectivity. The successful candidate will also lead the engineering team, establish development standards and delivery processes, and work closely with Product, Compliance and Operations teams to ensure reliable and secure system delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the overall architecture design and technical roadmap for the company's payment platform systems supporting overseas business operations and future expansion.

• Design and optimise core platform components, including transaction processing, channel routing, settlement, ledger, reconciliation and risk control integration.

• Build high-availability, scalable and resilient system architecture to support transaction stability, data integrity, operational reliability and security requirements.

• Design and implement secure system controls, including access management, audit logging, data protection, encryption and system monitoring mechanisms.

• Lead technical integrations with external partners such as banks, payment service providers, e-wallets and other third-party service platforms where required.

• Establish engineering standards, code quality practices, release management processes and quality assurance mechanisms for the development team.

• Manage and grow the engineering team, including technical coaching, delivery oversight and team capability development.

• Work closely with Product, Compliance, Operations and Infrastructure teams to support timely project delivery and continuous system improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.

• At least 5 years of backend development experience, with at least 2 years of architecture or technical leadership experience in payment systems, financial systems or similarly complex transaction platforms.

• Solid experience in designing distributed, high-concurrency systems, with good understanding of idempotency, transaction consistency, asynchronous processing, callback handling and message queue architecture.

• Strong experience in system design for transaction processing, ledger management, settlement, reconciliation and funds movement logic.

• Proficiency in mainstream backend technologies such as Java or Go, with hands-on experience in microservices architecture design and implementation.

• Strong awareness of system security, including access controls, auditability, operational risk controls, and secure architecture design.

• Experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex platform systems in a structured development environment.

• Ability to work cross-functionally with technical and non-technical stakeholders in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with Southeast Asia payment platforms, cross-border payments or regional payment integrations.

• Experience building payment systems from the ground up and supporting large transaction volumes at scale.

• Familiarity with digital asset, wallet infrastructure, blockchain-related transaction flows, or similar high-security transaction environments would be an advantage.

• Experience supporting regulatory remediation, security audits, or control enhancement projects in regulated technology or financial environments would be an advantage.
