The Engineering Manager (EM) is responsible for coordinating engineering activities across all design disciplines to ensure that each team can proceed with their work based on accurate and timely information. The EM facilitates communication and alignment among internal teams and leads technical discussions and negotiations with the client.
The EM plays a key role in addressing construction-related issues by collaborating with relevant stakeholders to establish appropriate engineering solutions and response strategies. This includes evaluating problems identified during construction and ensuring that they are resolved effectively from a design perspective. He/she is required to communicate with Asia Pacific HQ & Japan HQ in both English and Japanese with good technical knowledge regarding Waste-to-Energy matters.
In addition, the EM engages with the client to negotiate and resolve technical challenges, proactively seeking practical and efficient solutions. The EM also reports design-related issues and risks to the Project Manager (PM),contributing to informed decision-making and supporting the smooth and successful execution of the project.
Job responsibilities
- Coordinating engineering activities across all design disciplines
- Negotiating technical requirements and specifications with the customer
- Finding resolutions against findings and challenges which are raised in site work
- Preparing documents and report of engineering works and site works
- Schedule controlling of engineering and site work progress
- Document transmittal and correspondence to the customer
- Accounting the project status and site conditions to the customer
- Supervising additional work volume and assessing the impact to the project
- Communicate with Japanese internal and external counterparts on a daily basis
Job requirement
- Bachelor's Degree of Engineering Science
- At least 10 years of plant operation or commissioning experience
- At least 3 years of management (project and/or section, team) experience
- Japanese Language proficiency of JLPT N1 or equivalent is mandatory as this role requires the incumbent to communicate with Japanese internal counterparts and external suppliers on a daily basis
- Ability to analyze the technical issue and establish the feasible measurement for improvement.
- Ability to prepare and record effective engineering documents, such as cause analysis report, procedures, timetable, performance check sheet and test reports etc.
- Extensive knowledge in engineering, possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) certification is preferred.
